Job Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics (MEM) in the College of Engineering at Drexel University, in alignment with the University’s Areas of Excellence and Opportunity in support of its 2030 Strategic Plan, invites applications for full-time, non-tenure track (NTT) teaching positions with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: design and automation for sustainable manufacturing and process control automation; machine design; and sustainable aviation and aerospace. Successful candidates will have a passion for excellence in teaching and in active, student-centered learning with a desire to further invigorate the undergraduate curriculum around key competencies and student active learning missions. This includes contributing to undergraduate design and lab course instruction. Faculty in this role will also mentor students on senior design projects, engage in advancing recently established department-industry partnerships, such as one with a global leader in process control automation, and advise campus student organizations.

Candidates must hold a PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field by the proposed January 1, 2024 start date, with outstanding academic and/or industrial credentials. They should demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the above-listed subject areas. Candidates should have previous design and laboratory experience and a commitment to excellence in the education of undergraduate and graduate students.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to undergraduate design and lab course instruction.
  • Mentor students on senior design projects, engage in advancing recently established department-industry partnerships, such as one with a global leader in process control automation, and advise campus student organizations.
  • Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in on-campus, online, and hybrid modalities.
  • Example course topics include mechanics, thermal fluids, control systems, design, manufacturing, and other emerging areas.
  • Encouraged to develop and teach laboratory courses and to advise students on senior design projects.
  • Contribute to department-wide curriculum development to maintain and improve the instructional program.
  • Primary responsibilities include a teaching load of 30 credits and a service load of six credits per academic year during the fall, winter, and spring terms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
  • 1-2 years of experience is required, could be concurrent with pursuit of PhD.
  • Successful candidates will have a passion for excellence in teaching and in active, student-centered learning with a desire to further invigorate the undergraduate curriculum around key competencies and student active learning missions.
  • Candidates should have previous design and laboratory experience and a commitment to excellence in the education of undergraduate and graduate students.
