Job Summary 

A research technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Denise Garcia. Our research program is focused on neuron-glial interactions, with an emphasis on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of synaptic organization and plasticity. We use a combination of genetic, neuroanatomical and imaging of fixed and live tissue approaches in rodents. The position consists of both research and administrative work.

Essential Functions 

  • Manage and maintain a moderately-sized transgenic mouse colony.
  • Provide administrative support such as maintaining databases, ordering reagents and supplies, and general lab support and maintenance.
  • Technical assistance with experiments such as the preparation of histological specimens, microscopy, and RNA extraction. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Neuroscience, cell or molecular biology, or a related field  or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.  
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and effective communication are required.
  • Previous experience in a biomedical research laboratory is required.
  • We are seeking a well-organized, detail-oriented, and highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should have basic skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in neuroscience, as well as a solid understanding of genetic, cell biological, biochemical, and/or molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience handling mice and managing and maintaining a transgenic mouse colony is preferred.  
  • The candidate should be self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.

Additional Information 

This position is classified as non-exempt, grade F. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 14.10 to $ $ 21.15 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
