Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, organized, and flexible self-starter to fill the role of Community Intervention Specialist (CIS) for a shared position across two programs: the Community Outreach Team (COT) and Healing Hurt People (HHP). This position will be split, with 60% of the time dedicated to HHP and 40% to COT. The CIS will provide trauma-specific services in both community-based and hospital settings, working with violently injured individuals and their families in various environments, including schools, homes, and community-based locations. This role is based out of the COT/HHP main office in Center City, and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and it will involve travel to a range of community and partner organizations.

COT Overview:
The Community Outreach Team (COT) at the Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice provides assertive outreach, engagement, and therapeutic interventions to young people receiving services at local youth-focused organizations. The CIS will be responsible for providing acute intervention, outreach, trauma-focused counseling, group facilitation, and case management for children and adolescents (ages 14-18) and young adults (up to age 24) who are victims of or witnesses to interpersonal violence.

HHP Overview:
Healing Hurt People (HHP) is a trauma-informed program dedicated to addressing the long-term consequences of trauma and promoting emotional and physical healing among violently injured young people and witnesses of violence. The CIS will provide acute intervention, outreach, trauma-focused counseling, and case management for children, adolescents, and adults (ages 5 to 35), focusing on community, hospital, office, and home-based services.

Essential Functions

  • This shared role requires flexibility, excellent time management skills, and the ability to balance responsibilities between both programs. The CIS will play a key role in providing life-changing services to vulnerable individuals in the Philadelphia community, supporting their healing journey and promoting trauma-informed care within local organizations.
  • Community Intervention (60% HHP / 40% COT)
  • Provide trauma-focused counseling and advocacy for individuals aged 5 to 35, both in the hospital and community (HHP) and for adolescents (ages 14-18) and young adults (up to age 24) in the community (COT).
  • Conduct intake evaluations for new clients and maintain a caseload of 10 to 20 clients, adjusting based on client needs and productivity requirements (12 to 15 billable weekly hours)
  • Offer individual, family, collateral, and group therapy sessions using evidence-based modalities, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and other trauma-focused interventions.
  • Provide referrals and intensive case management to connect clients with community-based resources, including employment, school, and social services.
  • Co-facilitate 2-5 weekly CYPHER groups, a trauma-informed group intervention, both in hospital and community settings. 
  • Collaborate with community partners and schools to implement trauma-informed initiatives and staff education, including quarterly workshops and trainings. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all client interactions, including treatment plans, progress notes, and billing records in compliance with PCCD, CBH, and state standards.
  • Maintain intensive follow-up contact with clients, families, and service providers through home visits, telephone calls, and community-based engagement. 
  • Provide individual, family, and group trauma-informed counseling to clients in both community and hospital settings. 
  • Complete intake evaluations and maintain caseloads, adjusting based on show-rates and productivity needs.
  • Engage with caregivers, facilitate family therapy sessions, and collaborate with key stakeholders to support client progress.
  • Co-facilitate trauma recovery groups, Community of Young People Healing Experiencing and Rebuilding (CYPHER) and provide educational initiatives for partner organizations. Maintain case records and ensure timely documentation in compliance with CBH, PCCD, and state regulatory standards.
  • Participate in supervision, case conferences, and ongoing training to maintain high standards of service delivery. - (Essential)
  • Additional Responsibilities: 
    • Collaborate with both COT and HHP Program Directors on strategic initiatives, community engagement, and service planning. 
    • Assist with organizing and attending community resource fairs, stakeholder events, and trainings as part of broader outreach efforts.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisors from both COT and HHP. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Master's Degree in Social work, Psychology, Counseling, or Family Therapy or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
  • Licensed in Pennsylvania (LSW, LCSW, LPC, or LMFT) or the ability to become licensed at the time of hire
  • Ability to work evening hours at least three times per week and engage in community based work.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120.00 to $61,680 Per year . Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
