Job Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for analyzing financial information and performing a variety of accounting duties associated with the timely and accurate preparation and reporting of financial data, in accordance with applicable accounting, industry, regulatory and institutional principles and policies. 

Essential Functions

  • Ensures routine journal entries are prepared in accordance with monthly and year-end closing calendars. Utilizes accounting knowledge, judgment and reconciliation tools to identify transactions requiring non-routine journal entries. Ensure workpapers and supporting documentation supporting entries is accurate and follows departmental standards. Updates status of tasks in designated Office365, BlackLine or SharePoint, as required. 
  • Completes assigned bank reconciliations monthly by deadlines and ensures workpapers and supporting documentation and in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Prepares assigned account analyses of balances sheet accounts by assigned deadlines using BlackLine. Makes recommendation for adjusting entries and appropriately escalates issues of significance to manager in a timely fashion. 
  • Provides documentation and analyses as needed to internal and external auditors by requested deadlines. Utilizes PwC Connect tool to provide all supporting documentation by requested deadlines. 
  • Researches and responds timely to inquiries from university business managers. Provides necessary information and acts as a liaison with other administrative departments to ensure accurate recording of all transactions into the general and operating ledgers.
  • Documents existing processes and makes appropriate recommendations for process improvements. Recommends ways of improving current procedures and processes. 
  • Responsible for accounting related to Plant Funds, Endowment Funds, and Gifts as directed by manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting or Finance or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills are needed to interact successfully with faculty and students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a non-profit (preferably college or university) setting
  • MBA/CPA
  • Experience with Microsoft Office365 applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Planner), Banner ERP, Hyperion, OAS, BlackLine, UiPath

This position is classified as Exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 54,630.00 to $ 81,940.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
