Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director for Career Services, the Assistant Teaching Professor will teach career development curriculum to incoming undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a cooperative education concentration. This non-tenured track teaching faculty position joins a team of four faculty educating students on resume development, career preparation, interviewing skills, the job search process, and workplace behavior. The position will also assist in continued curricular innovation, course development; participate in departmental committees, events, and initiatives. This full-time role supports career preparation for students in the renowned co-op program by leading classes quarterly (fall, winter, spring, summer) and having the flexibility to manage office hours to support 1:1 engagement.
Essential Functions
Teaching:
- Lead in-person instruction of the Steinbright career preparation curriculum for first year and second-year undergraduate students and graduate students.
- Stay informed on trends in career development, co-op program operational changes, new majors, and the theory and practice of curricular innovation to assist in the continued development of curricula and course syllabi in collaboration with faculty team.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills in teaching students how to develop effective job search tools, strategies, and workplace familiarity to excel on co-op and beyond.
- Provide opportunities to meet with students during office hours, respond to email communication, and provide individual review and critiques of job search materials.
- Maintain detailed records of assignment submissions and student progress in BbLearn. Keep director and student support team advised of students with academic challenges. Document issues in AVT. Submit final grades utilizing BannerWeb.
Academic and Professional Collaborations:
- Participate in service responsibilities in Steinbright and Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) such as committees, task teams, presentations, and event support.
- Attend weekly faculty meetings, monthly Steinbright All-Staff meetings, and departmental training sessions.
- Work closely with academic departments to support the integration between COOP 101 and academic programs.
- Other operational, assessment, or academic responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Excellent teaching and/or presentation skills.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach students the skills needed for a successful job search.
- Passion for career development.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; ability to work in databases required; demonstrated competence in Zoom and Teams.
- Organization and careful attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree.
- Experience with BannerWeb.
- Familiarity with BbLearn.
- Background in career services.
