Job Summary

The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design at Drexel University seeks a Program Administrator to oversee our successful Drexel in Los Angeles (DiLA) Summer Internship Program. Serving the entire College, this position reports to the Head of the Department of Cinema and Television. This is a year-round, part-time position starting September 2022.

The Summer Program Administrator for Drexel in LA will work remotely with Drexel’s main campus but must live in the Los Angeles, CA area. They will supervise and administer all aspects of the summer program. The Program Administrator must work well under minimal supervision; keep track of a multitude of details; present well over the phone; express themselves clearly in email, and provide encouragement and guidance as needed to motivate students.

The ideal candidate brings a wealth of professional experience in the entertainment industry. They will have strong industry connections, excellent communication skills, and a desire to work with our motivated students. Preferred candidates will have expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration. They will have knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students the entertainment industry and experience or demonstrated commitment to mentoring underrepresented students.

It is anticipated that annually there will be between 30 and 48 DiLA students who will come from various programs within the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, including Film & Television, Screenwriting Animation & Visual Effects, Entertainment and Arts Management. The College has an existing database of internship employers. The DiLA Administrator is expected to grow this database.

This position is housed within the Department of Cinema & Television, located within the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. The Department of Cinema & Television is comprised of undergraduate majors in Film & Television and Screenwriting& Playwriting and a graduate program in Television Media & Management. Our students experience challenging curricula that prepare them for the rigors of working in various entertainment industry careers.

Essential Functions

  • Program preparation, including reviewing applicants, delivering information presentations, conducting group meetings with all participants, and meeting individually with all students to review cover letters and resumes and prepare for interviews.
  • Researching new internship opportunities, making cold calls, and developing relationships with potential employers. 
  • Organizing and working with students to apply to internships.
  • Keeping track of student progress in securing an internship.
  • Planning and coordinating L.A. student excursions and activities.
  • Being available for students during the entire summer portion of the program. 
  • Following up with internship employers. 
  • Coordinating with L.A.- based activities of the College

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Film/Television.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of the current entertainment industry and have industry connections.
  • Comfortable with mentoring and advising undergraduate students.
  • Familiarity with the city of Los Angeles.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in an applicable field.
  • Experience working with students in a university setting.
