Job Summary

The Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions is seeking an experienced faculty candidate for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track position in the Department of Counseling and Family Therapy. The position responsibilities involve teaching addictions focused courses and directing the development and quality improvement of graduate level programming in addictions counseling.

Reports to: Chair, Department of Counseling and Family Therapy

Essential Functions

Open Rank Professor (80% effort): The primary responsibility is teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses offered in one or more degree granting programs within the department. The position requires content expertise in addictions treatment as well as the capability of providing clinical supervision to students seeking licensure or certification in addictions counseling. Much of the teaching will occur online. The position also requires a balance of scholarship and service. Responsibilities:

  1. Teach a combination of courses held online and on campus, primarily related to addictions.
  2. Provide course coordination oversight for select courses based on content expertise
  3. Maintain contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas and effective teaching and student assessment skills.
  4. Advise and mentor students
  5. Develop new curriculum to reflect the changing needs of behavioral healthcare system stakeholders
  6. Serve on Department, College, and University committees
  7. Engage in scholarship
  8. Demonstrate commitment to diversity and social justice through teaching, research, and service activities
  9. Maintain current professional licensure and certifications
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair

Program Director Job Summary (20% effort): This position manages the day-to-day operation and participates in the strategic planning process for the following programs within the Department of Counseling and Family Therapy: the Master of Science in Addictions Counseling, the Certificate in Substance Use Disorders, and the Graduate Minor in Addictions Counseling.


  1. Organizes and conducts prospective and new student orientations in collaboration with Drexel University Online
  2. Interacts with Academic Advisor and Faculty Mentors as needed to facilitate resolution of online student issues and concerns
  3. Coordinates the term master schedule, teaching assignments and adjunct contracts
  4. Conducts periodic quality and compliance reviews for program courses; Oversees online curriculum development and revision
  5. Conducts quarterly online faculty meetings
  6. Collaborates with the Department Chair to resolves policy issues and program concerns

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate, Behavioral Health, or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience
  • Licensure or Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling
  • Experience teaching online

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree required in a behavioral health field of study, preferably in Counselor Education or Related Field
  • Licensed Professional Counselor
