Job Summary

The Office of Research and Innovation is seeking an Institutional Review Board Coordinator.

Essential Functions

Review of Applications

  • Assist in the review of IRB applications to ensure that federal and university requirements for application content and informed consent documents
  • Attain and maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of human subject research protections including Federal, HIPAA, State, local regulations, and university policies throughout the review process
  • Use independent judgment in interpreting and applying relevant university policies and guidelines
  • Coordinate and communicate with IRB members, investigators, and research coordinators

Customer Service

  • Assist faculty, staff, and student researchers in the preparation of applications
  • Work with student researchers to educate and support institutional compliance with research submissions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to address critical issues and resolve problems within scope

Data Management/Reporting

  • Record compliance-related activities and maintenance of electronic IRB system
  • Ensure appropriate tracking of research projects and generating reports regarding research actions and activities utilizing the electronic IRB system
  • Serve as technical expert on the use of data management systems and the application process to support users

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 5 years of administrative work experience
  • Must obtain CIP within three years of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health, health-related or social sciences discipline
  • Five years of human research protection program or research administration experience
  • CIP Certification
  • Basic level of proficiency regarding the submission of human subjects’ research applications and informed consent documents to an Institutional Review Board (IRB) in compliance with federal regulations
  • Working level of proficiency in identifying problems and obtaining resolution alternatives
  • Working level of proficiency in processing information with good accuracy
  • Evidence of attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Working level of proficiency in facilitating collaborative communication and working well with others in a professional environment
  • Working level of proficiency in listening to feedback and adding value to customer interactions
  • Experience in writing correspondence to a federal regulatory agency
