Job Summary

The Director of Space Planning & Interiors oversees and manages space planning and selected projects for multiple University campuses, including health care/medical office facilities, educational/instructional spaces and administrative/office areas; and manages space requests and projects generated by the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and other units. These projects range from small renovations in owned or leased space to large tenant fitouts in new construction. This position requires continuous and diplomatic interaction with senior administrators, clinical staff, physicians, development partners, contractors, vendors and others.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee space planning, including health care/medical office facilities, educational/instructional spaces and administrative/office areas.
  • Plan, manage, and oversee multiple simultaneous projects generated by the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and other units in owned and leased space. Projects range from small renovations to large new tenant fitouts.
  • Generate RFPs, bid, negotiate, and award contracts with consultants, general contractors, and other vendors (in consultation with others as policy directs).
  • Continuously interact with client base of administrators, academics, clinical staff, physicians, and others.
  • Reviews the project plans developed by outside consultants, for adherence to University standards and requirements
  • Develops program needs for University user groups, and develops project scopes.
  • Continuously monitors project budgets to control project costs
  • Design, specify and procure furnishings for capital construction projects, in compliance with with University requirements. Develop the interior design components of projects not directly managing.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interior Design, Real Estate background a plus
