Job Summary

The Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory of Dr. Chrysikou (www.chrysikoulab.com) is seeking a full-time Research Specialist to contribute to our federally-funded projects on learning and memory. Our projects are highly collaborative, involving scholars from various disciplines, including psychology, neuroscience, engineering, architecture, and computer science.  This is an ideal position for a candidate looking to gain research experience before applying to graduate or medical school. The research assistant will be an integral member of this scientific team and will have opportunities to network, earn authorship on publications, and present posters at scientific meetings.

Our lab focuses on basic and translational research on the neural bases of cognitive flexibility, higher-order thought, and goal-oriented action. We are part of the Applied Cognitive and Brain Sciences Program ( http://drexel.edu/coas/academics/graduate-programs/psychology-applied-cognitive-brain-science/) within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Drexel University (http://drexel.edu/coas/academics/departments-centers/psychology/ ). We are a highly interdisciplinary group using cognitive neuroscience methods such as functional neuroimaging, neuropsychological studies, and noninvasive brain stimulation to investigate cognitive and affective regulation in health and disease. Our lab fosters a supportive mentorship environment and we boast over a dozen undergraduate and post-bac trainees who went on to MS and PhD programs or medical school.

Essential Functions

  • The implementation, coding, and analysis of behavioral studies, as well as assisting with the implementation of resting-state and task-based fMRI experiments.
  • The position duties include participant recruitment, behavioral and MRI data collection, data organization and analysis, lab administration, IRB protocol management, and grant and publication administration.
  • The Research Assistant will work closely with the PI and other research team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, or related fields or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience
  • Interest in cognitive or educational neuroscience
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong motivation and work ethic
  • Ability to combine collaborative orientation with the ability to function well independently
  • Demonstrated research experience in a psychology or neuroscience laboratory Undergraduate level statistics course and experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g. Matlab, SPSS, R, Excel, etc.)
  • Exposure to one or more programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, Javascript, shell scripting, C/C++, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a brain imaging modality (fMRI, EEG, fNIRS) and/or psychophysiology (heart rate, skin conductance, pupillometry) or noninvasive brain stimulation (tDCS/TMS)
  • Experience in computer programming languages (R, Matlab, Python)
  • Experience analyzing neuroimaging data (e.g. SPM, FSL, AFNI, or similar platforms)
