Work type: Full-Time
Location: Queen Lane Campus - Philadelphia, PA
Categories: College of Medicine

Job Summary

The Department of Microbiology and the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease is recruiting an Associate Professor who will bring critical expertise to a number of academic units across the College of Medicine and Drexel University at large and increase our research connectivity to a number of other academic institutions within and outside the greater Philadelphia area. The successful candidate will have a background in Malaria research.

Essential Functions

Drexel has approximately 50 years of history that is internationally renowned for contributions to immunology, molecular and cell biology and drug discovery relating to this global health challenge.  However, a lack of field investigations constitutes a significant gap in our portfolio of research projects.  We are recruiting an individual with a dynamic NIH R01-funded research project that will deal with molecular epidemiology of malaria in several countries as well as cutting-edge studies of Plasmodium vivax and its ability to infect a wider range of humans, especially those in Africa previously thought to be imperious to infection by this species of malaria parasite.  The candidate will also be a part of an International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR), a U19 project funded for 7-year cycles.  This recruitment will enhance our footprint in malaria research for years to come, especially since the ICEMR U19 program will be coming up for renewal in 2024.  This recruitment is strategic in this regard as we continue our push to bring an ICEMR program to Drexel.
