Job Summary

The Department of Biology, Drexel University in Philadelphia, anticipates hiring a full-time Teaching Faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to teach undergraduate courses in biological sciences for the 2023-24 Academic Year. We are seeking an instructor with expertise in teaching in the following disciplines: Physiology or Neuroscience. The faculty position is expected to develop both introductory and upper-level courses in their area of expertise. Assigned courses could include both lecture and lab offerings. Experience teaching SEAGenes and/or SEAPhages is a plus.  The position will have teaching responsibilities at the main campus in University City, Philadelphia, PA. Demonstrated teaching experience preferred.

This position is a 9- month appointment with the possibility for renewal. Opportunities for summer teaching for additional pay may also be available. Teaching faculty positions are eligible for core Drexel benefits for the employee and their dependents.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and deliver a variety of courses at the introductory level for majors and non-majors, as well as upper-level courses in their area of expertise for STEM majors.
  • Collaborate with others in developing and implementing innovative teaching practices to promote active learning and problem-solving. Good communication skills are essential.
  • Supervision and training of graduate teaching fellows assigned to courses are required.
  • Applicants will be expected to be active in-service activities within the department and/or college.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Biological Science (or related field).
  • Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience.
