Job Summary

The Simulation and Clinical Lab Specialist I (SIM I) will report to the Laboratory Manager, Center for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation and Practice (CICSP).  The primary role is the implementation and delivery of simulation activities through the application of simulation technologies such as computers, mannequins, task trainers, standardized patients, audio-visual, and networking technologies.  CICSP supports online virtual simulation and in person learning in the Standardized Patient Laboratory, Human Patient Simulation and Skills Laboratory.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with Simulation Lab Specialist II (Sim II) and faculty in planning and running events in all modalities. This includes attending planning meetings; organizing and ordering supplies as appropriate; room set-up, tear-down, and re-setting of on-site lab spaces and closing of virtual simulation data; if needed hiring and managing SPs and supporting SP training sessions; and being the secondary point of contact for faculty.
  • In person activities may include lifting 25 pounds without assistance and over 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Collaborates with Sim II, and Laboratory Manager to review the quarterly simulation schedule, identifies opportunities for improvement and contributes to the departments’ growth and development.
  • Maintains inventory control; assessing and ordering needed supplies and collaborating with faculty when needed to explore alternatives.
  • Act as the on-site department representative, in the absence of SIM II and/or CICSP leadership by supporting faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and use of the simulation and clinical lab equipment and technology (including mid and high-fidelity mannequins, complex task trainers, and ancillary equipment such as defibrillators and IV pumps) after training is completed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the creation of models after training is completed.
  • Use of EMS SimulationIQ system, including building sessions, scheduling events, and managing inventory.
  • Monitors and operates simulation technology during simulation and skills events, with support by the Sim II.
  • Assist with CICSP help desk and reception area.
  • Monitor the daily on-site operation of the multidisciplinary lab and ensure communication of needs and issues to Laboratory Manager. 
  • Acts as an embedded standardized participant in simulation after training provided
  • Participate in special projects and events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or Equivalent
  • 2+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience with clinical skills labs, simulation labs, or health care environments preferred
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance and over 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Computer literacy in MS software required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including proper use of communication tools and technologies, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with a broad range of individuals at various levels within an organization.
  • Strong problem-solving and team-building skills.
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects successfully.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve basic and advanced simulation issues.
  • Knowledge of simulation services and applications is required; advanced training in simulation technology will be provided.
  • Knowledge of business planning, modeling, concepts, and tools helpful.
  • Knowledge of simulation mannequins and use of simulation software such as SimulationIQ preferred.
