Job Summary 

The primary responsibility of the Inpatient Psychiatrist includes providing direct patient care at one or multiple clinical affiliate site (s) and/or clinical practice location of Drexel Medicine as a Drexel University College of Medicine faculty member.  This position offers the candidate an excellent opportunity to teach and supervise medical students and other trainees from Drexel University, as well as psychiatry residents. Position is employed by Drexel University.  Faculty appointment is provided.  Competitive pay and benefits package.

Essential Functions 

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that services are provided in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensures that services are appropriate to patient need, both in quality and quantity
  • Ensures that medical records are completed according to the policies, procedures and regulations set by the clinical affiliate site(s)
  • Ensures that information required for billing for professional services is forwarded in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensures that the amount of service provided and the system for reporting information for billing purposes meets the clinical productivity target for the fiscal year.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement program at the clinical affiliate site or the practice location of Drexel Medicine
  • Provides on-call coverage for weekends and holidays as required by the clinical affiliate site.

PARTICIPATE IN THE CLINICAL AND DIDACTIC EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO THE CLINICAL AFFILIATE SITE(S)

  • Supervises medical students.
  • Provides didactic seminars to 3rd and 4th year students.
  • Complete evaluations on time.

PARTICIPATES IN THE CLINICAL AND DIDACTIC TRAINING PROGRAM FOR RESIDENTS IN PSYCHIATRY

  • Supervises residents on clinical cases including case load for each resident to ensure that residents meet the training requirements consistent with the goals and objectives outlined in the Residency Training Program Manual.  
  • Lectures in the didactic lecture and seminar series           
  • Provides individual supervision per the assignment by the Residency Training Program Director.
  • Conducts Clinical Skills Verification (CSV) for Psychiatry Residents
  • Complete evaluations for residents on time.
  • Participates in the clinical and didactic training program for trainees in non-psychiatry departments

PARTICIPATES IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATINO OF RESEARCH

  • May develop research protocols, collect pilot data and apply for extramural funding.
  • Works with other members of the faculty and staff in order to facilitate the development and implementation of research in the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Maintains confidentiality of workplace information according to the policies and procedures of the institution and the stipulations of federal and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania especially with highly confidential information.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned by Department Chair of Psychiatry, Chief Clinical Officer of Drexel Medicine, and/or Chief Medical Officer/Medical Director of the clinical affiliate site.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Medical Doctor in Psychiatry.
  • Prior experience in inpatient psychiatry, community psychiatry, consultation and liaison psychiatry in academic medical center is desirable.
  • Inpatient experience working with psychiatric patients with significant medical comorbidities is a plus.
  • Fellowship training in psychiatry subspecialty is not required but desirable. 
  • Ability to apply and maintain medical licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • If Board eligible must become Board certified within 3 years of being hired or have specific approval from the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Drexel University College of Medicine for contract renewal.
  • Must be insurable through the Drexel University’s professional liability insurance program.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Must be skilled in diagnostic evaluation and treatment of patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Must be skilled in working with patient’s family members.
  • Needs to have skills in a variety of individual, family and groups, psychosocial therapies and to be current in knowledge and skill with psychopharmacological interventions. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent teaching and supervision skills.

This is a full-time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The offered salary is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
