Job Summary

The Department of Community Health and Prevention at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health seeks applicants for a tenure track/tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level available starting on September 1, 2025.

We are strongly interested in candidates whose research addresses pressing community health challenges and uses an anti-racist lens. We seek scholars with expertise on the socio-behavioral and environmental determinants of health, the development and evaluation of socio-behavioral interventions, and/or the impact of health and other policies on the health of populations. Other scholarly areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, urban health, global health, public mental health, communication science focusing on digital technologies and social media, refugee and migrant health, and/or health equity. 

Successful candidates will be expected to bring and continue to grow a research program and to contribute to the teaching and service mission of our school, in collaboration with other faculty in the department and throughout the School, University, and their field.

The Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University is the first CEPH-accredited School of Public Health in the Philadelphia area. In 2015, the school received a transformative $45 million naming gift from Dana and David Dornsife to expand the faculty and build new research and educational programs, followed by another generous gift that created the Ubuntu Center on Racism, Global Movements and Population Health Equity. Under the leadership of former Dean Ana Diez Roux, the School experienced a period of growth with new faculty being recruited to each Department. Notably, the school has recruited a large and diverse cohort of junior faculty through the Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation (FIRST) Initiative funded by the NIH. With our new Dean, the School will continue its commitment to our mission of health as a human right, and improving health in cities, eliminating health disparities, and promoting health in all policies.

Our department is ranked 13th among all school of public health departments of social and behavioral sciences nationally. It is home to 24 multidisciplinary and diverse faculty committed to research, teaching, service, and practice through partnerships and collaborations with communities and organizations. Our work utilizes a variety of methodologies and covers a wide range of public health topics. Framed in the context of CBPR, health equity, and social justice, our faculty’s research and teaching seeks to reduce health disparities and to prepare a new generation of highly motivated public health scientists, scholars, and practitioners. Extramural research funding from NIH, CDC, NSF, DOD, UNICEF, and other sources includes support for post-doctoral and pre-doctoral training. The Department offers an MPH -Major in Community Health and Prevention, a Master in Science (MS) in Global Health, a PhD in Community Health and Prevention and several graduate minors in community health. CHP faculty lead a wide variety of Dornsife's centers and programs, including the Medical Cannabis Research Center, Drexel Maternal and Child Health Program, Office of Global Health, the Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice, and Dornsife's Public Health Undergraduate Education Programs. The Department is also home to the ComPASS Coordinating Center (C3), a recently-awarded $20 million NIH award focused on upstream, root causes of health inequities and related solutions generated and supported at the community level.

Essential Functions

  • Candidates for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level must have a strong record of externally funded research, and extensive experience teaching and mentoring.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to bring and continue to grow a research program and to contribute to the teaching and service mission of our school, in collaboration with other faculty in the department and throughout the School, University, and their field.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD or Doctorate in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Medicine, Nursing, or related fields is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a faculty position at a higher-education institution is required.
  • Candidates for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level must have a strong record of externally funded research, and extensive experience teaching and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated research experience and ability to obtain external research funding.
  • High number of peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals.
  • Excellent teaching evaluations.
  • A strong record of service to their institution and the profession.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally, interested/qualified applicants would already be working in an Associate or Full Professor level position in their current institution or equivalent scientific or public health leadership experience.
