Faculty Educator - Pathophysiology

Job Summary 

We are seeking a candidate with expertise in pathophysiology for this .25 to 1.0 FTE, 12-month clinical science educator position. The selected candidate will serve as a module(s) leader in pathophysiology at the Philadelphia campus of Drexel University College of Medicine. The candidate will coordinate one or more systems-based modules in the year 2 medical curriculum including preparing and delivering pre-recorded lectures and conducting live sessions.

DUCOM’s Foundations and Frontiers curriculum prepares students to provide humanistic care to adverse populations as an integral member of a health care team. The 17-month Foundations phase includes multidisciplinary, integrated basic and clinical science courses that utilize a combination of technology enhanced instructional formats to deliver course content as well as in-class team-centered instructional activities that extend and apply knowledge to clinical problems.

Candidates must demonstrate willingness to contribute to multidisciplinary medical instruction in small group and large group settings (ex. team-based learning) and will also participate in small group case-based learning sessions and clinical skills and/or simulation sessions.

The position will be filled at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor commensurate with experience and accomplishments in medical education.

Essential Functions 

  • Work with an interdisciplinary team of basic and clinical science educators to develop and implement basic and clinical science content in an innovative and integrated medical education curriculum
  • Develop online educational resources for the system-based pathophysiology thread
  • Design and participate in active learning sessions within the pathophysiology thread
  • Identify, track and support students in academic difficulty within the course/thread
  • Facilitate case-based learning
  • Facilitate clinical skills small group sessions
  • Participating in mentoring and advising activities for medical students
  • Maintain a scholarly focus in education

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Medical Doctor in Clinical Science and Disciplines.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience teaching in a graduate or medical education setting with evidence of effective teaching.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated success in working well with faculty, administrators and students in an
  • educational environment.
  • Knowledge of education, pedagogy, assessment, and trends in medical education.
  • Strong interpersonal and teaching skills.
  • Passion for and commitment to medical student education.
  • Strong team skills and willingness to develop educational material in collaboration with multi- discipline based faculty

Additional Information 

This is a part-time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The salary offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
