Job Summary 

The Lead Medical Assistant serves as part of a multi-disciplinary care team at the Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice. This individual delivers high-quality patient care and completes administrative tasks, which include - but are not limited to - an efficient patient flow, supervision and instruction of multiple medical assistants. The lead medical assistant serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for MA/Nurse EMR documentation, coordinates laboratory activity, and ensures adequate provider coverage, and timely monitoring and controls of studies. This individual acts as liaison between patients, providers, nurses, medical assistants, and front-desk staff, and assists clinic manager and clinic director with projects as assigned.

Essential Functions 

  • Educates medical assistants, serving as subject matter expert for MA/Nurse EMR documentation, and laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Educates medical assistants on (1) safety precautions required in laboratory, including universal precautions; (2) EMR documentation requirements.
  • Ensures that Medical Assistants perform and document basic patient history, treatments and administer medications appropriately.
  • Works with clinic manager to ensure staffing provides adequate laboratory coverage for providers and efficient patient flow during each clinic session.
  • Ensures that MA Clinic schedule allows for patients to receive lab visits within seven (7) days.
  • In collaboration with clinic nurses, manage MA/Nurse pool activity, ensuring timely follow-up with providers and staff; solicit assistance from other medical assistants as needed.
  • Maintain a schedule for medical assistants, including time away from office.
  • Communicates laboratory coverage schedule to clinic staff during morning and afternoon huddles.
  • Develops staggered lunch schedule for medical assistants to ensure adequate coverage during the hours of 11:30 am and 1:30 pm (i.e., 11:30 am - 12:30 pm, 12:00 - 1:00, 12:30 - 1:30 pm).
  • Oversees laboratory activity to ensure accurate methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used to perform laboratory analysis.
  • Develops a tracking system to allow for accurate inventory of medical supplies and vaccines, and ensures that supplies are at par, not overstocked, and stock is rotated to avoid expiration.
  • Ensures that all emergency and medical equipment is in proper working condition. Ensure all exam rooms are cleaned, well-stocked, and ready for use by clinical providers.
  • Serves as lab representative - or assign a lab representative - to serve on clinical
  • projects/committees, including the collection and reporting of CQI data, to improve patient outcomes.
  • Oversees daily, weekly, monthly quality assurance reviews (i.e., eye wash stations, temperature logs, overdue results in Epic).
  • Participates in recruitment of medical assistants.
  • Performs administrative tasks, as assigned by clinic manager and director.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Vocational or Technical School diploma in Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
  • Medical Assistant Certification is required.

This position is classified as Non-Exempt with a grade of I, [$19.69 - $ 29.54]. The offered Pay is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.
