Job Summary

The Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for implementing a strategic and innovative alumni engagement plan including communications, events, and programming for College of Medicine (CoM) alumni. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker who brings new ideas for engaging and communicating with alumni to develop and execute unique alumni touch points that generate connections. The Director will manage the College of Medicine Alumni Association Board of Directors and College of Medicine Reunion Weekend programming and reunion committees.

In addition, the Director will facilitate and manage activities to create and support a pipeline of major giving prospects to achieve fundraising goals. They will work to foster stronger connections with alumni in key geographic areas where the College of Medicine has regional campuses working in conjunction with regional faculty and Deans. This position is committed to intentional and focused engagement and solicitations to achieve shared goals. The Director will provide support to other areas of the Health Sciences unit on an as needed basis.

This is a hybrid role. Candidates must live or be willing to relocate to the Greater Philadelphia area.

Essential Functions

  • Lead initiatives that strengthen alumni engagement and development efforts in the medical school and ensure positive and purposeful alumni, prospect, and donor relations.
  • Design and implement a targeted engagement strategy working with Regional Deans to build and strengthen alumni and faculty engagement at College of Medicine (CoM) regional campuses.
  • Work in partnership with AVP, Development to build targeted outreach strategy to engage alumni around specialties to build pipeline and introduce never engaged alumni to the College of Medicine.
  • Develop and implement strategies to leverage relationships with alumni to encourage leadership annual and major giving.
  • Maintain small portfolio of prospects, mostly Alumni Board members and other active alumni volunteers, with the goal of cultivating and soliciting leadership annual gifts and entry-level multi-year gifts.
  • Plan and execute all alumni events, including College of Medicine Alumni Weekend, specialty reunions, local and regional campus events, career panels, etc.
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Annual and Reunion Giving, CoM to manage milestone reunion committees and class fundraising goals.
  • Manage the College of Medicine Alumni Board of Directors, working with AVP to grow Board and enhance their engagement and philanthropic mission.
  • Work collaboratively with department and faculty leaders to identify strategic areas of support and engagement to engage alumni as speakers, presenters, and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with College of Medicine Office of Student Affairs to create and nurture opportunities for meaningful alumni engagement including alumni mentorship opportunities.
  • Serve as the contact person for faculty and staff, alumni and others interested in information, services, and programs related to alumni engagement.
  • Acts as a liaison between the College and the Office of Alumni Relations to foster activities and philanthropic support that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the College.
  • Work closely with the AVP of Development to facilitate and follow up on internal communications relating to alumni, parents, and friends.
  • Collaborate with CoM and Institutional Advancement Marketing & Communication teams to disseminate information and appropriately publicize accomplishments of alumni and other noteworthy alumni/development news. 
  • Maintain an understanding of COM and University priorities.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Vice President, Nursing and Public Health to build alumni engagement efforts at the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
  • Follow Institutional Advancement procedures regarding prospect management and documenting contacts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of development and/or alumni engagement experience in annual giving, alumni engagement, special events, fundraising, or higher education development experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in creative use of social media, digital communications, and video marketing.
  • Experience in creating dynamic one pagers and e-blast mailers.
  • Knowledge of database fundraising software; CS Advance, I-Modules.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade M. Compensation for this grade ranges from $75,200 - $112,79 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
