About the Department of Health Sciences:

The Department of Health Sciences, nested within the Division of Health Sciences, is a major academic unit within the College of Nursing and Health Professions. In 2022, the College of Nursing and Health Professions moved into a new state-of-the-art (Health Sciences) building on Drexel’s main (university city) campus with the College of Medicine. In alignment with Drexel’s 2030 strategic plan of reimaging and experiencing what education can be, the department expanded and welcomed faculty, staff and students from programs in Nutrition and Culinary Sciences and launched new exercise science major and minor degree programs for students across the university.

Job Summary.

The Department of Health Sciences invites applications for adjunct faculty to support our newly developed and rapidly growing Exercise Science programs. Adjuncts joining our department are expected to deliver student-centered and experiential learning experiences for students in traditional face-to-face, online, or hybrid environments. Candidates with real world experience and expertise capable of translating their pedagogy from theory to practice is welcomed as students at Drexel are exposed to not only core intellectual but experiential learning as a means for preparing students for careers as they exist today and will exist in the future.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and deliver course content for undergraduate exercise science students, aligning with program objectives and departmental goals.
  • Provide instruction in a range of courses that may include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise and facilitate laboratory sessions, ensuring students gain hands-on experience with equipment and techniques relevant to exercise science.
  • Integrate modern instructional technologies to enhance student learning, including online and hybrid teaching formats, as needed.
  • Assess and grade student performance, providing timely feedback to promote learning and improvement.
  • Maintain office hours to support students and address their academic inquiries.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to ensure alignment with program growth and accreditation standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum M.S. in a relevant field
  • Online learning management systems experience (Blackboard)
  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in teaching undergraduate courses in exercise science or related disciplines.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience or openness to use online learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Canva, Moodle, or Microsoft Teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as ACSM-EP, NSCA-CSCS, or equivalent.
  • Experience with laboratory-based instruction and proficiency in using exercise science laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching platforms and methodologies.
