Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

As communicated on Oct. 10, Drexel University is suspending its contributions to employee retirement plans for calendar year 2025 as part of its multi-year plan to build financial resilience. Job Summary

The Urban Health Collaborative (UHC) is a multi-disciplinary research center focused on improving health in cities. We are seeking a Marketing & Communications Specialist to support marketing and communications for several key programmatic areas of the UHC. This includes our flagship events, the Urban Health Summer Institute training courses and the Urban Health Symposium. The Marketing & Communications Specialist will manage marketing for UHC events, manage the UHC’s social media presence, develop website content, plan and execute the monthly newsletter, and complete other essential duties to support the UHC’s marketing and communications goals as needed. He/she will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams within the UHC, the Dornsife School of Public Health, and across Drexel University to produce effective marketing materials promoting the UHC, its research, events and news.

Essential Functions

  • Content Creation and Management:
    • Draft press releases, website content, blog posts, briefs, and e-newsletters highlighting UHC's research, training, and community engagement initiatives.
    • Manage and update the UHC website, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and user-friendliness. Support website refresh.
    • Develop and maintain a consistent brand voice across all communication channels. Develop specific communications and capacity building materials (e.g., short videos, policy and data briefs, interactive web applications).
    • Develop promotional materials for both online and in-person events, including registration pages, flyers, and social media content. Draft/design reports, briefs and other UHC dissemination materials Ensure adherence to Drexel’s brand standards and policies governing communications.
  • Marketing:
    • Develop and implement marketing campaigns to promote the UHC’s events, educational programs, and research initiatives, including the Urban Health Summer Institute and the Urban Health Symposium.
    • Identify and pursue new marketing opportunities that support UHC’s mission, including strategic partnerships, advertising channels, and revenue-generating initiatives.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and strategic promotion of UHC programs across digital, print, and media platforms.
    • Track and evaluate marketing campaign performance, adjusting strategies to maximize reach, engagement, and impact.
  • Social Media Management:
    • Develop and execute a social media strategy to engage audiences and promote UHC's work, working to grow following and connect with strategic partners.
    • Create and schedule engaging social media content across various platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), to disseminate research findings and complex data.
    • Monitor and analyze social media engagement metrics, adjusting content strategy as needed.
  • Strategic Communication and Collaboration:
    • Support the development and implementation of a communications strategy for the UHC in line with strategic plan.
    • Partner with UHC faculty, staff, and students to develop and support the implementation of communication strategies or marketing strategies for specific projects and initiatives.
    • Assist with the creation of presentations and marketing materials that effectively communicate UHC's impact.
    • Stay up to date on current trends and best practices in public health communications, proposing innovative strategies for UHC.
  • Media Relations:
    • Proactively identify newsworthy stories about UHC's work.
    • In collaboration with Drexel communications staff, pitch stories to relevant media outlets and build relationships with journalists.
    • In collaboration with Drexel communications, coordinate and distribute press releases for high profile project findings, and coordinate interviews and other media engagement for project researchers.
    • In collaboration with Drexel communications, secure positive media coverage for UHC events, research findings, and faculty expertise.
    • Monitor media mentions and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Other Duties: Stay informed about relevant public health issues and their impact on urban communities. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall communications and marketing goals of the UHC.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Degree in marketing/communications or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
  • Minimum of Three or more years of marketing/communications experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and organization.
  • Experience managing institutional social media account(s), websites, and other online content.
  • Experience managing marketing campaigns.
  • Experience communicating research findings and technical content through clear writing for lay audiences.
  • Proficiency in design and relevant software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Buffer, VEED).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, HTML, and/or web content management, and social media management platforms and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with multiple institutions to develop and promote communications materials for a variety of communications channels (print, online, and multi-media).
  • Prior experience with research and international research collaboration.
  • Ability to convey complex ideas and information to lay audiences across a multitude of platforms.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490 to $ $ 71,230 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
