Job Summary

The Business Intelligence (BI) Manager is a functional lead for advanced analytics and business intelligence solutions in the Office of Institutional Advancement. This role works closely with business partners to conduct in-depth data analysis, identify patterns and build predictive modeling solutions that guide prospecting, engagement and fundraising strategies. This position provides insights to help make data-leading decisions and serves as a member of the Strategic Information Leadership team. As a leader in this work, this role adheres to university data privacy policies and procedures and stays abreast of industry-wide best practices to adopt as needed.

Under the general direction of Advancement Services and Systems department leadership, the BI Manager also supports data architecture, automation and reporting solutions. In addition to leading projects, this position performs and supervises work of moderate to high complexity, working both autonomously and collaboratively.

This is a Hybrid position, working primarily remote with ability to go into the office at least quarterly. Candidates must reside within the greater Philadelphia area.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate closely with Advancement engagement and fundraising leadership to fully understand business needs and identify opportunities for goal attainment, pipeline penetration, conversion and retention; obtain a common understanding of project scope and adoption to reach desired outcomes.
  • Analyze data, build predictive models and create dashboard/reporting solutions to guide strategies and measure performance for prospect identification, engagement and fundraising.
  • Develop and apply statistical models, predictive and prescriptive analytics and machine learning techniques to identify trends, patterns and opportunities.
  • Communicate data insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences; translate complex data findings into actionable recommendations and present.
  • Share regular progress on projects, program needs and issues to leadership.
  • Work both autonomously and collaboratively to create code and solutions of moderate to high complexity.
  • Establish a good working relationship with colleagues and users while following Advancement business specific guidelines and the University Information Technology standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Stay on top of industry standards, new developments, and technologies by reading articles and/or other pertinent publications, maintaining contact with vendors, and participating in professional organizations, meetings, and seminars.
  • Perform job-related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or related field of study or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a complex business environment; preferably in higher education, fundraising or marketing.
  • Knowledge and experience with object-oriented programming languages and statistical software.
  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases in a multi-user environment and how to extract data and report efficiently.
  • Strong time and project management skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and make administrative/procedural judgments.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize a work process, develop project plan documents, technical specs, and test strategy documents as part of development release strategy.
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently.
  • Strong and engaging communication skills.
  • Organizational skills to handle competing, ever-changing priorities.
  • Flexible, adaptable attitude with the ability to learn new languages and tools.
  • Must reside in the greater Philadelphia area.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Ellucian Advance, Anthology (Encompass/iModules), Tableau and Power BI.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following languages/platforms: SQL; Oracle tools, Python, R statistical programming, JavaScript, HTML, or XML.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade M. Compensation for this grade ranges from $75,200 - $112,790 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
