Job Summary

University Marketing & Communications creates proactive, innovative, and comprehensive marketing, communications and branding strategies that highlight Drexel’s academic strengths and research, while emphasizing the value and potential of the experiential education model. Marketing & Communications works closely with colleges, schools, academic and administrative staff throughout the University to create comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that serve the University’s overarching branding, recruitment and retention goals to meet or exceed the enrollment and revenue objectives. Marketing & Communications defines, protects, and disseminates the Drexel University brand while clearly illustrating its unique value proposition.

The Associate Director will play a key role, working both independently and cross-functionally with the Director, Marketing Strategy, various units across Marketing & Communications and Drexel University as a whole. They will execute the vision and marketing strategy of the Director by employing numerous marketing tactics and provide support for events and/or other initiatives.

The Associate Director will have a solid understanding of multi-channel marketing and will excel in collaboration, communication and relationship building. They will contribute to and execute marketing strategies that are grounded in research and best practices for both external and internal audiences. They will work with the internal marketing communications teams to implement media plans, creative development, metrics reporting and market research. They will serve as the day-to-day point of contact for college, school, academic and administrative stakeholders to provide support for marketing and communication projects.

This is a Hybrid position working primarily on-campus.

Essential Functions

  • Work with internal media team and external media agencies to execute media plans and strategies including trafficking, tracking and evaluation of media placement performance. 
  • Serve as day-to-day liaison with key college, school, academic, administrative and University partners, supporting all areas of marketing and communications. 
  • Work with internal marketing communications teams to execute the strategic direction for all media, collateral, content and assets for website, ad campaigns, events, related publications other marketing communication tools. 
  • Work with creative team to assist in devising messaging and creative strategy for assigned portfolio.
  • Monitor, track and prepare reports and metrics regarding media placement performance for evaluation by Executive Director. 
  • Lead informational meetings and follow up on actions items with colleges, schools, academic, and administrative staff as necessary.
  • Assist with market research on competing programs and new program opportunities. 
  • Work with the web team to maintain updated website presence for the assigned portfolio. 
  • Work with events/project management team on planning, set-up and execution of events/sessions related to assigned portfolio(s). 
  • Hire, train and supervise co-op student when available. May supervise other staff, work-study or part-time students for projects as needed.
  • Other assigned projects as necessary. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications or related discipline or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in communications and/or marketing related field. 
  • Proven knowledge of marketing principles, market research, online behaviors, trends and technologies to identify and recommend communication strategies.
  • Experience using Microsoft products (i.e. PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience working cross-functionally to support multiple business units/stakeholders.
  • Effective project management, organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage a heavy volume of a deliverables in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends throughout the year to support student-related events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advertising agency or higher education marketing experience.
  • Experience in marketing operations, advertising, media buying, or related analytical field.
  • Experience using marketing performance reporting and data analytics software.
  • Experience conducting customer research and segmentation.

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630 - $81,940 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
