Job Summary

The Drexel Advanced Infrastructure Materials (AIM) Laboratory in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) is seeking for an outstanding candidate for an open Research Assistant Professor Position in the area of the Advanced Infrastructure Materials. Expertise on the nature-inspired design of cement-based composite with autonomous self-responsive functionality, CO2 sequestration in infrastructure materials, and/or developing advanced infrastructure materials manufacturing techniques are preferred. The anticipated start date is Spring 2025. The successful candidate will work in the group of Professor Farnam in a strong collaborative environment from departments of CAEE, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Essential Functions

  • Perform and manage assigned research tasks.
  • Write technical reports and journal papers.
  • Write high-quality competitive internal or external research proposals.
  • Assist with various administrative tasks/duties.
  • Mentor PhD/master’s/undergraduate students within the research team.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative spirit and teamwork within the group.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD or Doctorate in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, and/or Chemical Engineering or another closely related field is required.
  • 0-1 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Strong expertise with strong evidence of publication records in developing nature-inspired cement-base composites.
  • Strong expertise with strong evidence of publication records in advanced cement-based composite characterization in Composite Fracture Test, 3D X-Ray Tomography, Infrared Tomography, X-Ray Diffraction, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and Scanning Electron Microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous postdoctoral position.
  • Evidence of preparing high quality internal or external research proposals.
  • Evidence of mentorship and assisting team members.
  • An ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • An interest in working in a fast-paced research environment.

Additional Information

This is a full time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The salary offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
