Job Summary

The Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center’s (PSARC) team of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) provide treatment and evidence collection to adult victims of acute sexual assault in the clinical setting. The specially trained SANE can provide post-exposure prophylactic care and traumatic injury screening, as well as collect forensic photographs, rape kit swabbing, toxicologic sampling, and clinical forensic narrative development. The SANEs are responsible as professional fact witnesses in the court of law and are liable to subpoena for providing testimony on behalf of the clinical forensic examination. An integral part of the collaborative interface of local victim care, SANEs are dispatched on a 24/7 basis to operate both within the PSARC center, as well as in the community by responding to inpatient hospital settings as requested.

Essential Functions

  • A minimum of one (1) on-call shift (12 hours) per month
  • Ability to respond to the center within one hour of dispatch
  • Completion of forensic examinations on adult and adolescent sexual assault victims per PA Department of Health and Philadelphia Sexual Assault Committee standards
  • Court testimony as requested per subpoena
  • Staff meetings and competency review as scheduled
  • Participation in Quality Improvement program
  • Participation in ongoing clinical research projects
  • Participation in continuing education and skill review trainings
  • Compliance with Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions credentialing requirements
  • Maintenance of professional license
  • Attainment of SANE-A certification preferred
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing
  • 1+ years of experience
  • Hold a current license to practice as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Has successfully completed at least a 40-hour didactic and clinical training course approved by the Philadelphia Sexual Assault Committee, as well as a competency-based post-course preceptorship.
  • Will obtain board certification as a sexual assault nurse examiner-adult/adolescent (SANE-A) from the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN)
  • Will acquire a minimum of four (4) hours of continuing education specific to sexual assault clinical care every three (3) years
  • Will maintain attestation of annual competencies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred minimum of one year of clinical experience in clinical forensic examination

Additional Information

This is a part-time per diem position classified as non-exempt.  The pay offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
