Job Summary

The Juvenile Justice Research and Reform (JJR&R) Lab in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Drexel University is hiring an individual to fulfill a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Scientist role. This is anticipated to be a 2-year position with the possibility to extend contingent upon fit and funding.

Essential Functions

  • Help lead the research, data, and project administration components of a federal grant from the National Institute of Justice to implement and evaluate the Positive School Safety Program (PSSP)—a year-long peer-to-peer coaching program to prevent school violence and improve school safety.
  • Work with the project team to address research, design, and analysis challenges and opportunities associated with conducting an RCT in real-life settings.
  • Lead and co-facilitate trainings, regular meetings with internal and external partners, and bi-weekly consultation sessions for PSSP coaches.
  • Work closely with several School District of Philadelphia offices to implement and enhance the PSSP Program, facilitate data transfer, and interpret variables and findings.
  • Manage project databases to structure, clean, and prepare data for analyses, conduct basic analyses, and collaborate with the lab statistician for high-level analyses.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator to use project findings to generate policy and practice recommendations; disseminate findings; and generate reform initiatives to improve school safety and dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline.
  • Author/co-author publications and presentations and facilitate trainings for academic audiences, policy makers, practitioners, and the public.
  • Serve as a core member of the JJR&R Lab and collaborate with several other lab project teams, which include faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate research assistants.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree Or Doctoral in  degree in psychology, education, public health, criminology, public policy, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with school district personnel and lab colleagues, as well as strong research and organizational skills to successfully co-lead key components of this large project.
  • Appointment will be made as a Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Scientist depending on qualifications, experience, and the successful candidate’s professional goals.
