Summer Kindergarten Bridge Program Teacher

Job Summary

Summer Kindergarten Bridge Teachers will work at a school site co-teaching a classroom of up to 20 rising kindergarten students. Teachers will work collaboratively in pairs, with additional support from the Teacher Leader. Teachers will be responsible for implementing program curriculum and activities that will focus on building school routines. They will also teach lessons to support early-literacy, early-numeracy, and social emotional skills. Teachers will have flexibility to develop their classroom leadership and management style together with their co-teacher. We will provide lesson plans and materials.

  • West Philadelphia School Site Location: Samuel Powel School (3610 Warren St)
  • North Philadelphia School Site Location: William Cramp School (3449 N. Mascher Street)

Programming will run Monday to Friday for 5 weeks from July 1- August 2, with one week of planning and training from June 24-June 28 before the program begins. Each teacher is expected to commit to 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, for the entire 6 weeks. 

Essential Functions

  • Leading daily lessons with their co-teacher in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development (lesson plans provided).
  • Building students’ school routines and reinforcing Kindergarten expectations.
  • Communicating with families about student progress.
  • Setting up the classroom to optimize student engagement and learning.
  • Preparing materials for lessons and classroom activities. 
  • Designing and implementing classroom management strategies.
  • Supervising outdoor play and lunchtime.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or recently graduated from one.
  • Ability to have reliable transportation (personal or public transportation) to the designated school site location.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student enrolled in an Education-related major.
  • Classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience working with young children (ages 0-8).
  • Experience working with English Language Learners.
  • Ability to speak English and Spanish (for North Philly site).
  • Strong interest in education and urban community work.

Additional Information

This is a Part-time Temporary/Per Diem/Casual position classified as Non-exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
