Job Summary 

The Clinical Director of the Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice (PCCP) Outpatient Clinic serves an essential role as part of a multidisciplinary team which provides care for adult patients living with HIV.  This individual’s primary role is oversight of the daily clinical function of the Partnership and supervising the team of ancillary staff.  The Clinical Director delivers direction and leadership to ensure PCCP provides excellent patient care, and promotes a positive work environment.  The Clinical Director will also provide direct nursing care when needed.   Finally, this individual works closely with the Medical Director and Director of Operations as PCCP’s Continuous Quality Improvement Manager.  The Clinical Director will identify opportunities to increase quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency, and develop indicators to measure, evaluate, and improve care for patients at PCCP.

Essential Functions 

Clinical Care and Emergency Preparedness

  • Creates and implements nursing policies and procedures to foster a positive and organized work environment while planning, prioritizing, and assigning healthcare tasks to clinical support team members.
  • Trains nursing staff and ensures competency of triage, treatment, and documentation.
  • Supports ancillary staff in maintaining provision of quality and safe patient care.
  • Provides direct nursing care to patients on an as needed basis, including triage and treatment.
  • Maintains nursing license.
  • Together with the Medical Director and Director of Operations, contributes to and monitors standards to comply with safety, and infection control and customer relations standards.
  • Communicates provider and clinic staff standards in keeping with regulatory agencies including OSHA and University policies.
  • Communicates and enforces the University’s safety process, which includes the Clinic’s emergency preparedness, hazardous materials/waste programs, security management plan, and equipment management.
  • Enforces Clinic responses to emergencies.

Leadership/Supervision/Communication:

  • Oversees the daily clinical operations of the Clinic including staffing needs and clinic flow.
  • Provides direct supervision of ancillary clinical staff including nurses, pharmacist, nutritionist, lab and/or office manager, and meets both individually and as a team with such staff regularly.
  • Develops and leads clinical workflow development and changes in collaboration with representatives of the Partnership team.
  • Develops and implements staffing standards and requirements for the Clinic.  Recruits staff who are in agreement with service excellence and quality patient care.
  • Together with the Director of Operations, recruits, hires, and orients new clinical employees.
  • Fosters the goal of teambuilding with clinic staff, and inspires confidence and motivation. 
  • Leads employees to accomplish job objectives and promotes staff career development.
  • Determines and demonstrates effective communication methods for staff and providers, and addresses concerns in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoots clinical issues regarding the electronic medical record system as well as other workflow challenges.
  • Works closely with the Medical Director and Director of Operations to ensure that staff are maintaining compliance with all University policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Interfaces with Drexel teams including Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance, and IT.
  • Carries out the mission of the Clinic, helps develop goals and performance standards in agreement with funding regulations, and communicates to staff based on the Clinic and University’s organization policies, procedures and systems.
  • Working with the Medical Director and Director of Operations, determines priorities of clinic activities based on available resources and funding opportunities.
  • Ensures that patient care needs are being met, and that the patient experience is a positive one.
  • Assists Director of Operations in handling patient complaints as well as disputes that may arise between staff members or between patients and staff.
  • Monitors attendance of direct reports according to the University’s policy. Performs annual Performance Evaluations for staff and determines merit increase for employees, and takes appropriate disciplinary action as necessary including placing employee on a Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Serves on relevant task forces and committees (ie. Committee for Quality Improvement, Leadership Committee).
  • Demonstrates the following leadership skills:  Critical Thinking; Conflict Management, Negotiation and Motivation, and Personnel Development.

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Manager

  • In collaboration with the Medical Director, Director of Operations, and the Data Team, leads the organization, monitoring, prioritization, planning and implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives. 
  • Works to improve patient care, safety, and outcomes, and contributes to corrective action plans.
  • Recognizes opportunities for improvement in clinical workflows, patient care, performance measures, and work plan goals. 
  • Encourages providers and staff to develop CQI projects and to work as a team.
  • Ensures inclusion of representatives from all disciplines as well as clients
  • Informs Director of Operations and Medical Director on needed updates to policies and procedures based on quality improvement work.
  • Follows Plan, Do, Study, Act process.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of robust clinical experience and at least 3 years of management experience with direct supervision of staff are required.   
  • Experience caring for underserved communities and/or people living with HIV much preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to provide consistent quality patient care with a keen eye for detail, organizational skills, and effective time management.
  • Experience instructing clinical support employees on proper treatment procedures.
  • Hands-on experience in Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of and experience supporting diverse patient backgrounds, including race, gender, and LGBTQ+ identities, and deep interest in advocating for marginalized communities and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion required. 
  • Commitment to learning and delivery of trauma-informed care is essential. 
  • Comfort with electronic medical record systems, and proficiency with standard computer systems, including Microsoft Office and Zoom are required.
  • Ability to work closely with IT to troubleshoot problems and optimize documentation and workflows.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree is preferred.

Additional Information 

This position is classified as an exempt grade N. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 90,430.00 to $ 135,640.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
