Job Summary

The Data Analyst is a research fellow position. The Data Analyst will perform data analytics and apply machine learning algorithms as a research assistant in the principal investigator's research group.

The Data Analyst will learn and apply state-of-the-art python-based machine learning and computer vision algorithms for autonomous driving systems technology. They will also assist in general office/administrative tasks and likely engage in other activities outside of this role aimed at developing their knowledge of stakeholder management and reporting, professional confidence, technical sophistication, and other project management-related skill.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the datasets related to the operation of the AVS, such as multivariate time series and video frames. The datasets come from a variety of sensors, such as LiDAR, RADAR, stereoscopic cameras, GPS, battery consumption, and more.
  • Perform descriptive statistics and exploratory analysis of the datasets using python and R, and/or other computing environments, as needed.
  • Develop codes in python and R (and/or other computing environments) to extract meaningful information from the datasets as described in the project’s contract.
  • Use of machine-learning and computer vision algorithms on video frames for object detection, classification, and tracking.
  • Incorporate into the project’s codes traditional and state-of-the-art machine-learning algorithms for condition monitoring, anomaly detection, and fault classification.
  • Maintain the project’s codes through a version-control system (such as GitHub).
  • Prepare summarized reports from the results of the analyzed data.
  • Perform quantitative statistical analyses using R, on responses to a survey related to the project.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, mechanical engineering or other relevant field
  • At least 1.5 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent programming skills in Python, R, Matlab or other programming language
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and computer vision

  • Typically sitting at a desk/table

This is a full-time temporary position classified as non-exempt.  The pay offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
