Senior Payroll Tax Analyst

Job Summary

The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. They also perform tax audits, conduct risk assessments, and address inquiries from tax jurisdictions. Other responsibilities include providing data for tax returns, reviewing payroll tax activities, and resolving issues. The Sr Payroll Tax Analyst works closely with General Accounting to resolve account reconciliation questions.

Essential Functions

  • Transmit periodic and quarterly payroll tax files to the tax management vendor (ADP). Troubleshoot and resolve all files issues in a timely manner. Provide funding and support for the transmitted files.
  • Assist in preparing, auditing and issuing W-2s.
  • Maintains payroll tax compliance. Review tax notices from federal, state and local jurisdictions and determine the necessary course of action required.
  • Audit quarterly and annual payroll tax records for accuracy and correctness.
  • Validate that employee tax setups are accurate and the proper federal, state and local taxes are being deducted and remitted for all employees.
  • Work with employees to resolve payroll tax questions and issues. 
  • Provide guidance to the Payroll Team on payroll tax setups, and payroll questions.
  • Maintain accounts with jurisdictions as well as open new accounts when there is a need. Research the requirements for the new setup. Maintain tax profiles in the tax management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3 years of payroll tax experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, codes, regulations, standards, methods and practices
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles as it relates to payroll processing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using payroll software
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional
  • Experience with Banner HR
  • Experience with OAS Reporting and/or Hyperion Reporting

This position is classified as exempt, grade L. Compensation for this grade ranges from $62,630.00 to $93,950.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
