Job Summary

The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and Professor Yury Gogotsi (https://research.coe.drexel.edu/mse/nanomaterials/) is seeking a Research Professor to support a research project related to the investigation of the structural characteristics of carbon nanostructures formed on SiC via high-temperature vacuum decomposition as well as the morphology and defects of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) -grown 2D molybdenum carbide (Mo₂C) as a two-dimensional superconducting material.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership to our group of 40-50 students, postdocs, and visiting researchers.
  • Collaborating with academic and industrial partners on research projects.
  • Offer guidance in the group’s research efforts in synthesizing and characterizing 2D materials.
  • Expertly perform key research activities, including synthesis (high temperature vacuum decomposition; CVD; etching) and characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, Raman Spectroscopy etc.) of carbon nanostructures, Mo₂C and other 2D materials, such as MXenes.
  • Microscopy and X-ray characterization of different materials synthesized in Drexel Nanomaterials Institute.
  • Writing research proposals and applying for research grants.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Materials Science
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated hands-on laboratory or industrial manufacturing experience after graduation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be a strong experimentalist.
  • Prior experience with high-temperature furnaces, CVD, compressed gases, sintering of materials and chemical etching of materials would be plus.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and support graduate and undergraduate students.
  • The candidate must have good oral and written communication skills in English and be able to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues.
