ComPASS Communications Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to develop, manage, and implement strategic communications in support of the goals of the Community Partnerships to Advance Science for Society (ComPASS) Coordination Center at Drexel. The role of the ComPASS Coordination Center (C3) is to support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of 25 Community-led Health Equity Structural Intervention (CHESI) sites across the country as part of a large NIH-wide effort. We invite experienced applicants who are passionate about improving health equity and social justice to join a dynamic team of researchers, project managers, and trainees.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, implement and monitor all communications activities for a large, highly visible, NIH funded Coordination Center. Manage all activities related to communications and dissemination of project activities and findings to ComPASS Consortium members and the public.
  • Create and manage the annual work plan for Center communications and collaborate with project faculty, staff, funders and partners for implementation.
  • Track and report on communication and dissemination success metrics (such as media mentions, social media reach, etc.).
  • Write, develop, manage, and update web content as needed for the ComPASS website in collaboration with Project Directors and work closely with contracted web developers and Drexel University communications to implement it.
  • Work closely with the DSPH communications team to ensure that ComPASS content on DSPH website is up-to-date and complete.
  • Lead the development of written content for web and social media, as well as print materials such as reports, brochures, and video scripts, with input from other project staff and collaborators, with the goal of translating complex research activities and findings into understandable and relatable content for lay audiences.
  • Develop regular newsletters and blog posts for members of the ComPASS Consortium, and external audiences.
  • Develop, edit, and manage media, graphics, and images for online use, such as short videos, data visualizations (static and interactive), infographics, project photos, etc.
  • Manage all ComPASS social media accounts and content, working to grow our following and connect strategically with partners.
  • Work collaboratively with the C3, NIH partners, and Consortium members to share stories and progress about ComPASS in multiple platforms to varied audiences.
  • Develop process for eliciting, writing, and disseminating program stories and successes from 25 Community-led Health Equity Structural Intervention sites.
  • Attend the ComPASS Annual Meeting in Bethesda, MD area to take photographs, conduct interviews, and develop other multimedia products. Assist with virtual attendee registration and engagement via the Whova event platform.
  • Other special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or a closely related field or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants must be located in or willing to relocate to the Philadelphia, PA area for consideration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management skills, ability to prioritize and complete a wide range of projects to specified deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrated professional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Experience with email marketing campaigns and e-newsletters (e.g., Mailchimp).
  • Experience with updating and maintaining website content.
  • Knowledge of social media, both as a marketer and as a user.
  • Experience with design and editing tools for still images and video .
  • Excellent judgment in understanding and effectively executing media aligned with our brand identity/style guidelines.
  • Be accountable for attention to detail and for meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly master and use, social media listening, reporting, and scheduling and analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, etc.).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator) or willingness to learn independently.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Smartsheet, Monday.com).

This position is classified as exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630 to $81,940 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
