Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

As communicated on Oct. 10, Drexel University is suspending its contributions to employee retirement plans for calendar year 2025 as part of its multi-year plan to build financial resilience. Job Summary

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at Drexel University is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the clinical practice team at Drexel University. Specifically, the department needs an individual to serve as a clinic administrator to guide daily operation of the physical therapy clinical practice. The clinical practice is located within the Drexel Recreation Center, a 240,000 square foot facility on Drexel’s main campus that serves as the fitness and wellness hub for the university. The physical therapy practice treats orthopedic injuries of the spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, hip, knee, and foot/ankle as well as provides treatment for vestibular issues and post-concussion symptoms. The practice treats the Drexel University community (faculty, staff, and students) and patients/clients from the surrounding area. Runners, dancers, and Drexel’s varsity, club and intermural athletes are a particular focus of the practice. The success of the practice, in part, is due to the many contributions of the clinic administrator.

Essential Functions

  • Checking patients in and out for their physical therapy appointments
  • Collecting co-pays at the time of service
  • Registering patients in the electronic health record and verifying the accuracy of their insurance coverage to insure timely insurance payments
  • Reviewing patient accounts to ensure all balances have been paid
  • Understanding and explaining to patients their financial responsibility for the services they receive
  • Assisting patients with scheduling of appointments while ensuring efficiency in scheduling and appropriate follow-up to facilitate good physical therapy outcomes
  • Answering patient/client questions about insurance and physical therapy services offered and directing students, members, and patients
  • Coordinating referrals and authorizations to insure efficient and timely payment for services rendered
  • Overseeing collation of electronic remittance advices from payers, transmitting them to the practice billing company, and verifying that the associated deposits have been made to the practice account
  • Create and follow a protocol for following up on outstanding insurance claims and denials and submitting appropriate documentation to receive payment
  • Preparing practice deposits
  • Assisting in managing the status of account balances and identifying inconsistencies
  • Working with the team to ensure a seamless and positive physical therapy experience for the patients/clients of the practice
  • Develop plan/process to achieve maximum patient appointments for their treatment plan 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of HS Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience 
  • Customer service oriented
  • Effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with patients and clinicians
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures as well as medical reimbursement
  • Manage phone and e-mail communication for the clinical practice
  • Knowledge of use of a personal computer with Microsoft Windows
  • Ability to use Office365, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic health record software effectively
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and insurance reimbursement
  • Good understanding of physical therapy practice billing and reimbursement practices and how explanation of benefits are processed and reconciled
  • Ability to supervise work study students who may be assisting with administrative tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • It is important that the person in this position have strong communication skills, prioritize customer service, be able to decipher explanation of benefits and financial spreadsheets, and be organized and internally motivated. The ability to multi-task and see projects through to completion is a must. The position will be supervised by the Director of Physical Therapy practice.

This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120.00 - $61,680.00. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
