Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

As communicated on Oct. 10, Drexel University is suspending its contributions to employee retirement plans for calendar year 2025 as part of its multi-year plan to build financial resilience. Job Summary

A postdoctoral research position is available for a highly motivated individual with strong expertise in modeling and simulation of biochemical reaction systems, with a focus on mRNA production from DNA templates. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multi-institutional research team advancing the understanding and design of enzymatic transcription reactors and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formation systems.

Essential Functions

  • Develop transient physicochemical macroscopic-scale models for in-vitro mRNA transcription processes.
  • Derive model equations and numerically solve systems of differential equations representing transcription reaction networks, enzyme kinetics, and transport phenomena.
  • Simulate mRNA production in enzymatic tubular reactors using MATLAB, Python, or related computational tools. 
  • Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and contribute to research proposal development. 
  • Communicate research findings clearly in both oral presentations and written reports. 
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team spanning engineering, biology, and computational sciences. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biophysics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the following in modeling biological production systems is highly desirable:
    • o mRNA transcription networks and enzymatic reactions
      o Reaction rate equations and reactor modeling
      o Derivation and solution of model equations
      o Transport phenomena and macroscopic modeling
      o MATLAB and Python programming 
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work professionally in a diverse, team-oriented environment.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630.00 - $81,940.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
