Job Summary

The advisor will carry a caseload of undergraduate Engineering students, serve as instructor for a section(s) of the fall term University 101 course, and work on advising projects, as assigned. This is an extremely high visibility position, requiring an individual who can interact with various internal and external constituents. Academic advisors, like faculty and other professional staff, are central to providing information, guidance, and support with the intent of enabling students to make informed decisions and engage available resources to support academic success and personal and professional growth.

The individual will be expected to exercise sound judgment as it relates to dealing with students, faculty, staff, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. They must be resourceful and disciplined and able to work in partnership with stakeholders throughout the university community.

Essential Functions

  • Advise a caseload of students on curriculum issues, academic progress, and other related matters
  • Teach section(s) of the University 101 fall term course
  • Support students through developmental advising which includes:
    • critical/ethical reasoning, goal setting, identifying /working through obstacles, and making referrals where appropriate
  • Support the following Undergraduate Affairs events: college-wide Commencement ceremony, Celebration of Engineering, and Welcome Week. 
  • Participate in student support programming and recruitment and retention activities, including leading and/or serving on project teams.
  • Be proficient and comfortable with technologies related to the academic advisor role.
  • Appropriately manage sensitive and private information.
  • Possess skills to work with a diverse set of students with a variety of advising needs.
  • Play a supportive role in recruitment needs of the College of Engineering, including occasionally staffing weekend or evening events.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in academic advising or related experience in an educational environment. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and proven organizational skills.
  • Experience working with students in academic or personal difficulty in an advising capacity preferred.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120.00 - $61,680.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
