Job Summary

Drexel University Facilities Management Department is seeking a qualified candidate for an open locksmith 2nd shift position.

Essential Functions

  • General maintenance, repair, and installation of cylindrical and mortise locksets and door hardware components (closers, exit devices, electronic latches, keyless entry locksets, lockers, etc.).
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains all types of door and lock hardware.
  • Repairs locks: disassembles locks and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts as needed.
  • Repairs and adjusts door-mounted closers and floor closers.
  • Adjusts, lubricates, repairs doors, locks, closer, file and cabinet locks, and all related hardware.
  • Applies professional knowledge of master key systems.
  • Cuts assorted keys. 
  • Rekeys individual locks, departments, and facilities as directed.
  • Assists managers in setting up and maintaining a key control system.
  • Maintains records of keying schedules, key change, and key issuance.
  • Completes daily work order assignments under minimum supervision.
  • Wears respiratory protective equipment (annual pulmonary fit test required).
  • When not engaged in the above activities, may assist as required in a variety of maintenance work involving manual labor and semi-skilled and skilled tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a HS Diploma or GED or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' relevant experience.
  • Completion of certificate/apprenticeship training as a locksmith.
  • Proof of current or past locksmith bond policy and must be bondable.
  • Valid driver's license and is insurable for vehicle operation.

Physical Demands

  • Requires working from step ladders, reaching overhead, bending, and squatting.

Additional Information

This is a Full-Time Union position classified as Non-Exempt.  Benefits and compensation are based on the agreed Collective Bargaining Agreement for this position.
