Job Summary

The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and Professor Yury Gogotsi (https://research.coe.drexel.edu/mse/nanomaterials/) are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to bring leadership to a team of several PhD and undergraduate students working on the synthesis and processing of MXenes. The postdoc will work closely with the Director, staff, students, and partner companies and national labs, and provide leadership within a large research project.  

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with a national lab, academic and industrial partners on research projects.
  • Offer guidance in the group’s research efforts in synthesizing and characterizing 2D materials.
  • Expertly perform key research activities, including synthesis (high-temperature and wet chemical etching) and characterization (SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy etc.) of MXenes.
  • Assist in writing research proposals and reports.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field. 
  • Minimum of 2+ years working in a chemistry or materials lab. 
  • Must be a strong experimentalist with demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to qualify to work on this specific project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Career trajectory of a faculty position or research leader in industry with a keen ability to manage and mentor students in the lab.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and support graduate and undergraduate students.
  • The candidate must have good oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630.00 - $81,940.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
