Job Summary

The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and Professor Yury Gogotsi (https://research.coe.drexel.edu/mse/nanomaterials/) are seeking a Research Professor to bring leadership to a team with multiple research projects related to the development and applications of MXenes.

The Associate will work closely with the Director, staff, postdocs, students, and other faculty, and provide leadership within the Institute.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership to our group of up to 50 students, postdocs, and visiting researchers.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners on research projects.
  • Offer guidance in the group’s research efforts in synthesizing and characterizing 2D materials.
  • Expertly perform key research activities. These may include synthesis (wet chemical, high-temperature vacuum decomposition CVD; etching) and characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, Raman Spectroscopy, etc.) for carbon nanostructures, Mo₂C, and other 2D materials, such as MXenes.
  • Offer guidance and input as needed on all parts of the project, which additionally include electrochemistry applications, such as for water desalination.
  • Write research proposals and apply for research grants.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Materials Science, or a closely related field. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory or industrial manufacturing experience after graduation.
  • Must be a strong experimentalist with demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Career trajectory of a faculty position or research leader in industry with a keen ability to manage and mentor postdocs, students, visiting researchers, etc., in the lab.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and support graduate and undergraduate students.
  • The candidate must have good oral and written communication skills in English and be able to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues.
