Job Summary

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow with doctoral degree in public health or an allied science to work on an NIH funded R01 study focused on the social epidemiology of liver diseases (specifically fatty liver disease [FLD]).

The fellow will work primarily on a recently funded NIH-funded R01 grant focused on examining how neighborhood social and built environment and their changes are related to liver related disease and its risk factors, within the MESA study.

Working closely with Dr. Lazo and the rest of the investigative team the fellow will be conducting cross-sectional and longitudinal data analyses of the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) to: 1) Characterize racial/ethnic disparities in fatty liver disease prevalence and incidence, 2) Examine the cross-sectional and prospective association of individual-level socioeconomic position (SEP) and psychosocial stressors with FLD and the contribution of SEP and psychosocial factors to socioeconomic and racial/ethnic disparities in FLD occurrence and 3) Examine the cross-sectional and prospective association of contextual-level social and physical features with FLD ocurrence and its racial/ethnic disparities.

In addition to working with Dr. Lazo, the post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of investigators on the project (e.g. Drs. Ana Diez Roux, Brisa Sanchez, Ana Navas-Acien, Jana Hirsch, Usama Bilal, Matt Budoff, Steve Solga). The fellow will dedicate most of the time analyzing data and writing manuscripts. Financial support may be available for travel to present results at scientific meetings.

The fellow will be based at the Urban Health Collaborative (http://drexel.edu/uhc/), a collaboration of all departments in the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health with unique mentoring and networking opportunities (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). This fellowship is a one-year, full-time position, with a possible one- to three-year extension, based on funding and performance. The salary and benefits will be commensurate with NIH standards. Work arrangements can be flexible (i.e., remote work, hybrid, in person) to accommodate individual preferences. The fellow will be an employee of the Drexel University School of Public Health (http://publichealth.drexel.edu/). Essential Functions

  • Conduct statistical analysis using MESA data 
  • Produce visualizations and tables with results from statistical analysis 
  • Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals 
  • Prepare and present results from analysis in oral presentations 
  • Contribute to grant writing of proposals related to the project 
  • Attend and contribute to project meetings

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD or Doctroate in Epidemiology, Public Health or an allied science
  • 3 + years of experience
  • A strong quantitative background.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Team oriented and experienced working with diverse groups of investigators, trainees, and students.
  • Prior experience working with cohort studies and multi-level data.
  • Advanced data management skills.

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt with a grade of I, Minimum: $ 41,120.00 - Maximum: $ 61,680.00.  The offered salary is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.
