Job Summary

We are hiring a senior data analyst to support activities for several large, multisite, and international urban health-focused research projects, including the Salud Urbana en America Latina Climate (SALURBAL-Climate) study and the Drexel Climate Change and Urban Health Research Center (CCUH).

The position requires a detail-oriented and organized individual who will conduct data programming, management, data documentation, and statistical analysis. This position will primarily assist with data programming and management tasks including data cleaning, quality checks, and linkage and maintain detailed documentation of various data sources obtained in the research studies. This position will also assist with statistical analyses for manuscripts and abstracts for peer-reviewed journals and conferences as needed.

The position is based at the Urban Health Collaborative (UHC) at the Dornsife School of Public Health and will report to the UHC’s Director of Data and Analysis. The position will work closely with principal investigators and other team members of the SALURBAL-Climate and CCUH studies. UHC was created to leverage the power of data, research, education, and partnerships to make cities healthier, more equitable, and environmentally sustainable. Our overall mission is to improve health in cities by increasing scientific knowledge and public awareness of urban health challenges and opportunities, and by identifying and promoting actions and policies that improve population health and reduce health inequities. UHC has expanded rapidly since its inception to become the robust center known nationally and internationally for its urban health work that it is today. UHC is made up of over 25 staff members and over 30 faculty from across the University.

Essential Functions

  • Programming for data cleaning, data quality, variable creation and harmonization assessment for various data sources including vital statistics, surveys, disease surveillance, hospital discharge and other datasets as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain detailed data documentation.
  • Programming for development of analytical datasets to be used in statistical analyses. 
  • Conduct data analyses including multilevel and longitudinal analyses under the direction of the Primary Statistician, Principal Investigators or other project co-Investigators for manuscripts and conference abstracts. 
  • Fulfill data requests as needed from internal or external collaborators. Track data requests and ensure data confidentiality as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Equivalent in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of experience working managing and analyzing data.
  • Intermediate/advanced knowledge of R, other statistical software such as SAS, STATA, SPSS.
  • Very detail oriented, extremely organized.
  • Strong independent learning skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent English oral and written skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese desirable.
  • Dataset experience:
    Federal government datasets or equivalent (Census, National Vital Statistics System natality and mortality files, Disease Surveillance files).
  • Geographically referenced datasets and mapping.

This position is classified as exempt, grade L. Compensation for this grade ranges from a minimum of $62,630.00 to a maximum of $93,950.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
