Job Summary

Group Exercise Instructors are an important part of the Fitness and Wellness department here at Drexel's Recreation Center. Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for teaching a variety of fitness classes in a variety of levels to Drexel students, staff, and community members. Some class examples may include: BODYPUMP, Zumba, Yoga, Cycle, Pilates, and more. They are responsible for providing a safe, fun and inclusive environment for all members.

Essential Functions

  • Arrive to class early.
  • Set up and clean up of equipment and music.
  • Provide customer service and a friendly attitude.
  • Choreograph, count, cue, modify exercises, correct form, choose music.
  • Maintain knowledge of and enforce facility and program policies.
  • Form relationships with your participants.
  • Assist with any program events as needed.
  • Attend meetings/trainings required.
  • Keep up with emails and group chat for information and subs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching group exercise classes.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to acquire one after starting.
  • Current Group Exercise certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NCSA or other nationally-recognized certification) or certification for the specific class you want to teach (Zumba, Les Mills, etc.).
  • Ability to perform and teach the workout simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisor via email and/or group chat and reply within 24 hour period unless noted.
  • Ability to ask questions, address concerns, and solve problems in a respectful manner.
  • Ability to communicate and work with co-workers.
  • Ability to be adaptable, a team player, and professional.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field.
  • Passionate about exercise and helping people.
  • Ability to maintain a friendly, outgoing, motivational, and fun demeanor.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to lead, communicate, and multitask.
  • Ability to teach multiple formats.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to run, climb.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, stoop.

Additional Information

This is a Per Diem position classified as Non-exempt. The offered pay is dependent upon internal equity and the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience.
