Job Summary

The Case Manager serves as a resource for students, provides assistance and/or appropriate emergency support, and engages in outreach as required to meet the non-clinical needs of Drexel students. The Dean of Students’ Office is frequently engaged in responding to academic and non-academic concerns experienced by Drexel students. Staff in the DOS office are often asked to provide support, consultation, and assistance for students in distress for several reasons. This position will serve as a non-threatening touch point for students experiencing the variety of non-clinical issues experienced by students including but not limited to housing issues, food insecurity, academic challenges, family emergencies, etc. This position will help assess needs, work with the student to develop an appropriate plan of action, encourage appropriate referrals and provide support for students who need non-clinical case management. This person will consult with the Executive Director of the Student Counseling Center regarding sensitive cases, act as liaison to the Counseling Center’s Case Manager, and work closely with Drexel’s Student Counseling Center to coordinate care when appropriate to manage the specific needs of students. The Case Manager serves as part of the Student Life Leadership Team and participates in an on-call rotation to support students in crisis.

Essential Functions

  • Meets and provides follow-up with students who require the services of this position.
  • Assists referred students and families in making use of university and/or community resources including but not limited to housing insecurity, food insecurity, and emergency funding.
  • Provides support and guidance and follow-up with colleagues who are working with students of concern by assisting with finding appropriate resources for these students.
  • Maintains a referral relationship with the Drexel Student Counseling Center to ensure that work is done in tandem to meet students’ mental health needs when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the case manager of the Counseling Center for students whose needs are more clinical in nature, involve HIPPA related concerns, or require resources to provide continuity of clinical care.
  • Consults regularly with campus partners regarding services, access, and care to maintain strong collaborative relationships. 
  • Assists in the facilitation of information sharing, as permitted by FERPA, with identified entities including but not limited to campus departments, faculty, staff, parents, families and designated emergency contacts (as appropriate), as well as student issues or campus emergencies.
  • Provides administrative support for all reported student cases referred to the Dean of Students Office, overseeing documentation in case management system (Maxient) and interventions in a timely manner.
  • Creates and maintains a system for tracking the needs of students of concern.
  • Serves as a member of the Care Team and participates in Dean’s Committees, and Monthly Matters Meeting as appropriate.
  • Assists with maintaining a directory of community resources available to students (live and virtual) and promotional content.
  • Assists with presentations that address timely concerns of our students for faculty, staff and students to raise awareness and foster collaboration.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, student outcomes surveys and other methods of data collection all to promote further outreach, education, and campus well-being initiatives.
  • Demonstrates awareness and interest in practicing within a cultural humility lens and shows awareness of intersectionality. Particularly, has experience with first generation, Veterans, BIPOC identified students, LGBTQ+ and other minoritized identities.
  • Serves as a member of the Feed a Dragon working group which supports students facing food insecurity.
  • Manages and coordinates communication with academic partners related to student absences from classes/co-op.
  • Coordinates outreach to students returning from leave of absence to ensure connection with the appropriate University resources.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed to support and properly support Student Life initiatives, student emergencies, and crises.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Higher Ed Administration or Social Work or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in higher education or social work setting.
  • Strong listening and attending skills; demonstrated understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated capacity and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and inclusion among various groups of individuals, including students, faculty, staff, families, etc.
  • Demonstrated capacity/ability to contribute to and work effectively in teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience navigating sensitive information and situations with diplomacy while exercising excellent judgment that is congruent with an institution's or organization's mission, along with federal, state and internal policies.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work appropriately and adapt easily to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in conducting presentations for varied audiences.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to participate in professional development opportunities that may require regional or domestic travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Higher Education Law (Title IX, Clery, FERPA).
  • Experience working in an on-call rotation.

This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490 to $71,230 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
