Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

As communicated on Oct. 10, Drexel University is suspending its contributions to employee retirement plans for calendar year 2025 as part of its multi-year plan to build financial resilience. Drexel is continuing to monitor the situation and will share updates as they become available for calendar year 2026.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance and renovation of the University's properties and facilities to include leased and/or rented area's owned and/or occupied by the University.

Essential Functions

  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment such as pumps, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, emergency lighting, motors and machinery. 
  • Installs, repairs and replacements mechanical, kitchen and electrical equipment including pumps, boilers, HVAC equipment, light ballast’s, motors, plumbing, door hardware, etc. as required. 
  • Repairs and renovations to include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall installation, doorframes, hardware, furniture on such items as chairs, lock sets, shelving, stair treads, desks etc. as required 
  • Applies primer, paint, varnish, stains, lacquer, etc. to the interior and exterior surfaces of the University property. 
  • Installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, drainage and other systems of the University.
  • Lifts and moves equipment, materials, supplies and furniture such as desks and file cabinets within the same location or from one campus location to another, as required.
  • Performs outside campus work assignments such as trash removal, snow removal, etc., as required. 
  • Assigned special projects, as needed such as trash removal, cleaning and landscaping. 
  • Other related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of HS Diploma or GED. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in general maintenance to include plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry fields.
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residence with acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to climb ladders, perform manual labor and lift objects of up to 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate power tools related to maintenance, snow removal, cleaning and landscaping.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding or another elevated lifting platform devices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to use desktop computer and smartphone to access computerized programs such as work orders, training and internet searches for parts/manuals.
  • Installation of telecommunications and computer cables.
  • Ability to work independently.
