Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

As communicated on Oct. 10, Drexel University is suspending its contributions to employee retirement plans for calendar year 2025 as part of its multi-year plan to build financial resilience. Job Summary

Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM), Department of Microbiology and Immunology, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to join Dr. Hangjun Ke lab and the Malaria team at Drexel. Dr. Ke’s laboratory focuses on the molecular biology of malaria parasites (Plasmodium spp.) and investigates parasite bioenergetics, organellar functions, and host-parasite interactions, with the goal of identifying essential pathways/proteins for the development of novel antimalarial therapeutics.

The future postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to work with other malaria labs within the department. A strong emphasis is placed on career development, participation in national/international conferences, communication skills, grant and manuscript writing skills, and leadership development. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to be highly self-motivated and independent. They will be joining a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary training environment. 

Essential Functions

  • The candidate will perform CRISPR-based gene editing to study pathways related to energy acquisition of the malaria parasites and energy exchange at the host-parasite interface. The position offers opportunities to
    • Cultivate malaria parasites in the long-term
    • Perform CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing
    • Analyze phenotypic changes upon conditional knockdown or knockout of genes
    • Understand the mechanisms of parasite bioenergetics and biology

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of PhD or Doctorate in Life science or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of publication record in genetics, biology, and/or infectious diseases, with experience performing parasite culture and gene editing.
• Excellent communication and written skills to enhance interactions and collaborations among different research teams.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630.00 to $81,940.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
