Job Summary

The Department of Communication invites applications for a full-time NTT (open rank) Teaching Professor in Public Relations and Digital Communication, rank will depend on the finalist’s qualifications and experience. Expertise is required in the areas of strategic digital communication, digital publishing, and social media management. Teaching duties are at the undergraduate and graduate level in different sectors of public relations and digital communication, which may include but are not limited to social media communication & management; digital publishing; media analytics/data visualization; generative AI, as well as more general courses the department offers. Candidates with additional teaching specialties in the fields of social media/big data analytics, data visualization and/or in the use of artificial intelligence in media and communication professions are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Communication has an Undergraduate program in Communication, a Professional Master program in Strategic and Digital Communication and a Master and Ph.D. program in Communication, Culture and Media. Drexel follows the quarter system and students learn through hands-on experiences gained in and outside of the classroom. With faculty members who are equally passionate about teaching and cutting-edge research, the Department is a leader in communication education, guiding the design of new curricular approaches to enhance student learning. The curriculum offers focus and flexibility, allowing students to define their path to success. The Department develops research in the areas of Public Relations, Journalism, Civil Society and the Political, Popular Communication and Consumer Culture, and Information and Communication Technology. 

Candidates must be able to start working September 1, 2026.

Essential Functions

  • Teaching 4, three-credit courses each in the Fall, Winter, and Spring (Summer optional) both face-to-face and remote/online in the undergraduate and graduate communication programs and as part of service courses offered within the department.
  • Take part in continued pedagogical development with an eye on excellence in teaching effectiveness, including evidence of pedagogical innovation or experimentation.
  • Fostering a inclusive learning community through engagement in relevant activities. 
  • Maintain and expand the Department’s relationships with the professional world of strategic and digital communication, including public relations.
  • Staying up to date on research and professional practices in the areas outlined above and incorporate these into your teaching. 
  • Be an active and engaged member of the Department. 
  • Provide service to the Department, College and University.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree, preferably in Communication, Media Studies, Public Relations or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience teaching college-level students, preferably in both face-to-face and online modalities.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Must be legally able to in the US without a visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Communication, Media Studies or related field.
  • 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Social media/big data analytical skills.
  • Experience teaching and working with various student audiences.

This is a Full-Time Faculty position classified as Exempt.
