Job Summary

The Manager of the Hafter Center serves as the lead program, facility, and operations manager for the Office of University Recreation, overseeing the Hafter Center and Elkins Park recreational offerings. The Hafter Center serves the Salus campus, composed of approximately 11,000 graduate-level students. This position is responsible for growing and maintaining memberships and fitness, wellness, recreational programs to increase participation among the Drexel and surrounding community. The Manager will lead a team of full-time and part-time staff and student employees.

Essential Functions

  • Facilities & Operations
    • Oversee daily operations of all UREC facilities, including access control, scheduling, staffing, and user support.
    • Collaborate with the facilities and operations team to ensure seamless coordination across the Hafter Center and related spaces.
    • Respond to emergencies and inclement weather situations affecting facility operations. 
  • Staff Leadership & Development
    • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate Group Exercise Instructors and Personal Trainers.
    • Develop performance criteria and conduct routine assessments to ensure staff meet industry standards and support participant satisfaction.
    • Manage a professional staff employee.
  • Program Oversight
    • Manage personal training and group exercise programs, including payment systems, scheduling, and revenue generation.
    • Assist in developing and monitoring operating and staffing budgets for fitness and wellness programs.
  • Equipment Maintenance
    • Inspect, maintain, and ensure cleanliness of all equipment in group exercise and personal training studios.
    • Coordinate repairs and uphold safety and quality standards across all fitness areas.
  • Campus & Community Engagement
    • Partner with Student Life and campus departments to create engaging wellness events and intramural programs.
    • Maintain a professional presence in the Hafter Fitness Center and contribute to the University's mission through collaborative programming.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 4 of experience managing a recreation or fitness center.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel to Drexel's Main Campus as needed for meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software products.

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120.00 - $61,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
