Job Summary

Under the direction of the AVP, Research Business Operations and Technology in the Office of Research & Innovation, the Director will lead the Research Systems & Analytics (RS&A) team within the Office of Research & Innovation (ORI). The incumbent serves as the subject matter expert and is responsible for oversight, implementation, ongoing management, and support of all research systems, data, reporting, ORI websites, and all associated training and communications for the university. Under the Director’s leadership, RS&A will develop a comprehensive understanding of policies, business processes, and governance models within the research enterprise and use this knowledge to ensure it is well-supported by information systems. The Director oversees one direct report who is responsible for various operational aspects of the RS&A organization.

Essential Functions

  • Project Implementation and Systems Management:
    • Serve as the project manager for a university-wide research administration enterprise system replacement project.
    • Oversight and management of all day-to-day project activities, including but not limited to planning, scheduling and resource management, stakeholder relationships, risk analysis and mitigation, quality control, and project communications.
    • Oversight and management of all day-to-day implementation plan activities/tasks, including but not limited to requirements gathering, design/functional/configuration efforts, stakeholder engagement, testing development and execution, change management and training planning/development/delivery.
    • Oversight and management of all post-production system support and continuous improvement activities.
    • Oversight and management of ongoing maintenance and functional/technical support for new and existing electronic research administration systems. 
  • Data & Analytics:
    • Manage and support the Senior Business Analyst – Data & Analytics.
    • Provide growth and development opportunities for the individual and function.
    • Oversee development of tools and methodologies for improvement and delivery of research data and reporting services
    • Manage analysis of data and information and ensure results deliver meaningful insights and trends.
    • Collaborate with other university data organizations to share and develop data, reporting, and insights.
    • Develop vision and plan for future growth of functional area. 
  • Identify constraints and propose solutions for challenges facing RS&A group.
  • Develop vision for long-term RS&A growth and development aligned with ORI and university strategic plans.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, business or similar field of study or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience. 
  • Oversight of full ERP implementation lifecycle, change management/training, data management and analytics, digital communications, supervision and professional development of full-time professional employees
  • Significant experience directly supervising full-time professional employees and teams
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing enterprise system implementation lifecycle(s).
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner or other large ERP system(s)
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a team environment, both within a project and in developing relationships and collaborations with organizations across the university
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection, management, and reporting of data and information. Experience with database management and/or BI tools a plus
  • Experience analyzing data sets resulting in meaningful insights and trends
  • Experience managing the development, delivery, and tracking of training content.
  • Knowledge and management of website design/development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to and communicate with diverse sets of stakeholders and end users.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and translate complex system and data requirements
  • Superb analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Customer-focused and dedicated to providing optimum service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and 10+ years experience implementing and managing electronic research administration systems preferably at a large academic research institution.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in university research administration operations.
  • Demonstrated understanding and leadership in the development and enhancement of automated workflow/processes and systems that support electronic research administration and reporting.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade N. Compensation for this grade ranges from $90,430.00 - $135,640.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
