About the Drexel Dance Ensemble 

The Drexel Dance Ensemble is a high-caliber, student-centered company that presents work by faculty, guest artists, alumni, and select student choreographers through fully produced annual performances. The ensemble emphasizes artistic rigor, collaboration, and creative exploration within a supportive community environment. 

Job Summary

The Drexel Dance Program seeks a collaborative, organized, and detail-oriented Rehearsal Director to support the rehearsal process for the Drexel Dance Ensemble. This role is ideal for an artist-administrator or dance educator who is passionate about supporting professional and student choreographers and performers, while facilitating a professional, process-driven rehearsal environment. 

The Rehearsal Director will oversee and support rehearsals throughout the creation and staging process, serving as a consistent point of communication and coordination between choreographers, dancers, and Ensemble leadership. Responsibilities include maintaining rehearsal structure and professionalism, tracking attendance and scheduling needs, assisting with communication and logistics, supporting choreographers during rehearsals, and helping ensure a productive and positive working environment as works move toward performance. 

Essential Functions

  • Oversee weekday evening rehearsals for the Drexel Dance Ensemble
  • Support rehearsal operations and maintain a professional rehearsal environment
  • Communicate regularly with faculty, choreographers, and student dancers
  • Manage/teach academic course DANC 131 003 (two Saturdays a term)
  • Track attendance, rehearsal reports, scheduling updates, and rehearsal needs
  • Assist with notes and general production coordination as needed 

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in dance rehearsal direction, stage management, teaching, or arts administration
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and guest artists
  • Familiarity with concert dance rehearsal processes and production environments
  • Ability to work approximately 8 hours per week during the primary rehearsal period
  • Ability to work approximately 12 hours per week during on-stage and pre-tech rehearsal weeks
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
