Job Summary
The Fire and Emergency Services Specialist (FES Specialist) is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling fire and safety hazards in leased and Drexel-owned facilities. Under direction, you will work closely with Drexel departments to minimize fire and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable University policies and fire code requirements. The FES Specialist will also apply the five tenets of emergency management (prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery) to fulfill the mission of the Department of Public Safety.
Essential Functions
- Assist with comprehensive safety and fire code audits of university departments and buildings and submit work orders via the work order management system.
- Work with internal/external departments to correct fire safety hazards and develop preventive procedures.
- Assist with delivering training classes and outreach materials.
- Serve as a system administrator for the Drexel Business Continuity Platform.
- In the absence of the Director or Assistant Director, act as a representative to other departments, which includes acting as a technical advisor on fire safety and emergency preparedness issues.
- Write reports documenting observations and recommendations for Director’s review. Assist with writing reports to other departments.
- Document all work in office computer files and databases.
- Assist in coordinating and managing the Building Emergency Response Team (BERT) operations and safety protocols.
- Contribute to Drexel’s overall Emergency Operations Planning.
- Be available to work flexible hours (nights and weekends).
- Under supervision of the Assistant Director or the Director, performs assigned tasks using standard procedures.
- Expected to act with increasing independence but all work will be reviewed by an Assistant Director or Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a HS Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of code enforcement, fire service, facility auditing, emergency preparedness, or relevant experience.
- Valid driver’s license from the state of residence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher education degree in Fire Science, Safety, Public Safety Administration, Emergency Management or related field.
- Fire Inspector I or Commercial Building Inspector, CPR, ICS/NIMS.
- Fire Protection Specialist, Fire Inspector II, PA or NREMT.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national fire codes and regulations pertaining to fire safety and fire code compliance.
- Knowledge of the principles of emergency management/disaster response and recovery.
- Knowledge of organizational and personnel management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work within a team setting.
- Ability to use computer databases and spreadsheet programs.
- Ability to locate and use appropriate technical resources in fire safety.
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment.
- Physically able to serve on response team.
- Developed professional presentation skills.
- Possesses knowledge of basic theories, concepts, practices, and procedures in fire safety and emergency management.
- Applies the knowledge to work assignments to meet specific department goals and objectives.
- Develops solutions to problems of limited scope.

Additional Information
This is a Part-Time per diem position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
