Job Summary

The Admissions Counselor serves as one of the primary contacts for prospective students and their families, school counselors, advisors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. This position is responsible for recruiting, selecting and yielding undergraduate students to various programs at Drexel University.

The Admissions Counselor interacts with prospective students through individual meetings, information sessions, and campus events to build relationships, answer questions, and explain the benefits of attending Drexel University. Responsibilities include managing an inquiry and applicant pool, reviewing applications (both domestic, international and transfer applicants) for the purpose of making admissions decisions within their designated application pool including working with applicants regarding missing materials, and managing the relationship from point of application through enrollment. The Admissions Counselor also counsels accepted students through the enrollment process to facilitate a smooth transition to Drexel.

The Admissions Counselor travels extensively during peak recruitment periods – locally, nationally, and internationally – and participates in on campus recruitment events, which includes evening and weekend hours.

This position has the opportunity to work a hybrid/flexible schedule during the off-peak season.

Essential Functions

  • Recruiting prospective first-year and transfer students by visiting high schools, attending college fairs (in person and virtual) and community events within a designated territory.
  • Conducting informational sessions and prospective student meetings.
  • Serving as the primary contact to prospective students and their family, school counselors, advisors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.
  • Creating and maintaining professional relationships with school counselors, advisors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process.
  • Developing relationships with prospective students through multiple mediums, including individual appointments, telephone, email, social media sites and video/virtual chat.
  • Working with campus partners to disseminate all necessary information to prospective students.
  • Preparing, maintaining and distributing both regular and ad hoc inquiry and applicant reports designed to keep the team updated on the status of the applicant pool.
  • Managing the inquiry and applicant flow to ensure students turn in all necessary documents to complete their application for the evaluation and financial aid process.
  • Reviewing and evaluating first year and transfer applications submitted by the applicant for the purpose of making admissions decisions or recommendations.
  • Traveling up to 10-12 weeks during the fall recruitment season and 10-12 weeks during the spring recruitment season, locally, nationally, and internationally (based on assigned territory).
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the  Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work up to 25lbs.

Additional Information

This position is classified as Exempt, grade H. Compensation for this grade ranges from $35,790 - $53,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
