Job Summary 

A research assistant position is available immediately to join a neuroscience group studying motor recovery after spinal cord injury. The lab uses a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses electrophysiological, morphological, neurochemical, and behavioral techniques. The research assistant performs daily health assessments and clinical treatments of laboratory animals. The individual collaborates with veterinary and basic research staff, provides surgical assistance and technical procedures for investigative staff, performs daily rehabilitation training of animals. The research assistant work closely with postdoctoral fellows and students in the lab to organize and oversee animal care and rehabilitation and completion of experiments requiring microscopic examination of tissues

Research Assistant I - We are looking for recent grads with close to a year of experience.

Research Assistant II - We are looking for candidate with 2 years of experience.

Essential Functions 

  • Animal care (daily health assessments and treatments of laboratory animals, ensure animal welfare, performs daily rehabilitation training of animals.
  • General lab maintenance (record keeping, chemical safety, ordering supplies, computer backups, surgical instrument supply replacement, lab cleanliness oversight).
  • Assisting PI and lab personnel with performing rodent surgeries, behavioral procedures, motor and electrophysiology procedures, and analyses.
  • Perform histology procedures.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree Neuroscience or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of rodent handling and care.
  • Experience in sectioning and immunostaining is desirable.
  • Master's degree preferred, but not essential.

Physical Requirements 

  • Typically sitting at a desk/table.
  • Typically standing, walking.
  • Lifting demands ≤ 25lbs

Additional Information 

This position is classified as an non exempt grade G. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 15.58 to $ 23.37 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
